The government delegate, Pedro Blanco, reported today that Galicia received 426 million euros between 2018 and 2025 to promote housing policies. He did so during a visit to the facilities of the areas of Development, Agriculture and the National Geographic Institute in A Coruña, in which he was accompanied by the secretary general of the delegation, Alberto de la Fuente; the deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas; the director of the areas of Development and Agriculture, Ana Quintairos and Ana Tubío, respectively, and the director of the regional service of the IGN, Pablo Carballo.
The government delegate explained that this money is making possible the rehabilitation of 20,000 homes and the construction of 1,200 new social homes and recalled that, in the case of rehabilitations, the aid is exempt from taxation and that, with the subsidy and tax deduction, which ranges from 20% to 60%, it could cover almost all the costs of the action.
In this regard, he indicated that the Government ' s housing plan placed greater emphasis on vulnerable groups and local entities as beneficiaries of housing construction programmes. In the case of the former, Pedro Blanco pointed out the 58.5 million euros in aid for the construction of homes for social rent in energy-efficient buildings, which materialize in 32 agreements signed with 13 Galician concellos for the construction of 1,142 homes.
Regarding the rehabilitation of municipal buildings, he pointed out that in Galicia 52 actions were selected in 43 concellos for the rehabilitation of municipal public buildings in the amount of 50.5 million euros.
Pedro Blanco acknowledged that these initiatives are being a success, in view of the fact that the funds for rehabilitation, most of them managed through the Xunta de Galicia, already allowed the improvement of 11,000 homes in the community. In this regard, he trusted that the Xunta will continue to see housing as a priority and invited the Galician Government to consider the possibility of supplementing all this aid with its own funds.
All these investments, he added, are complemented by other public aid, such as the xoven rent bond or the state plan for access to housing, which mobilizes 63.6 million euros in Galicia to subsidize the rent to young people, families and vulnerable groups; or the recent approval of a line of guarantees for 2.5 billion euros from the Official Credit Institute (ICO) so that 50,000 families and children under 35 can access their first home. Initiatives that, together with the modification of the Land Law to speed up procedures or the creation of a Reference Rental Price Index for stressed areas, are committed to making housing the right that, as such, is included in the Constitution.
