The Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosana Morillo, today highlighted the 5.8 million euros that the Government allocates to the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plans (PSTD) managed by the County Council of A Coruña, an initiative with which the Government pursues the modernization of the sector at national level and which, in this case, benefits 24 municipalities in the province of A Coruña.
In the course of a meeting with the president of the Diputación de A Coruña, Valentín González Formoso, with whom he has analyzed these plans, Morillo recalled that in Galicia the Tourist Sustainability Plans in destination add up to an investment of 200 million euros and reach one of every two Galician municipalities.
The Secretary of State for Tourism had the opportunity to know in more detail the different plans managed by the provincial agency. The first of these is the Fragas do Eume, which includes the municipalities of A Capela, As Pontes de García Rodríguez, Cabanas, Monfero and Pontedeume and has an investment of 1.5 million euros. Its main backbone is the River Eume, which, in its middle course and under water, is the Fragas do Eume Natural Park, declared as such in 1997 and which constitutes the best preserved Atlantic forest in Europe. This plan aims to create and improve tourist facilities and services so that they are able to generate the tourist experiences demanded by new consumers and allow a correct and continuous management of the destination.
The PSTD Project of Xeoparque Cabo Ortegal, which the Ministry also finances with 1.5 million euros and which benefits the municipalities of Amor, Cedeira, Cerdido, Moeche, San Sadurniño, Ortigueira and Valdoviño, has geotourism as a driving force on which to develop a strategy of dynamization and sustainable development. Thus, based on the exceptional geological, natural and cultural wealth of the territory, a differentiated and integrative story is created on which to explore, develop and promote the relationship between the geological heritage and the rest of the resources and unique aspects of this destination.
Equipped with 1,375,400, the third PSTD implemented by the Provincial Council is that of Vía Verde Compostela-Tambre-Tablelle, which benefits the five municipalities where the road runs: Santiago de Compostela, Oroso, Ordes, Tordoia and Cerceda. This itinerary belongs to the network of the Spanish Greenways that, reusing old railway route existing between the cities of Santiago de Compostela and A Coruña, is being conditioned for its implementation as a non-motorized transport route. The purpose of the plan is the revitalization of the rural territory through which it runs through the generation of opportunities linked to sustainable tourism and the valorisation of local products.
The PSTD Os fogóns de Anllóns, which is once again endowed with 1.5 million euros, benefits five municipalities in the region of Bergantiños along which runs the river Anllóns (Carballo, Coristanco, A Laracha, Ponteceso and Cabana de Bergantiños). The main objective of the plan is to position these municipalities as reference destinations for nature and gastronomic tourism. To this end, it will intervene in the recovery, care and provision of adequate infrastructures around the river that allow the mitigation of negative effects of human activity and climate change.
Finally, Ferrolterra’s PSTD Batteries promotes the recovery of the old military batteries of the coast to turn them into a tourist attraction. The Ministry allocates 2 million euros to this program from which the municipalities of Ferrol, Ares and Valdoviño benefit.
The Secretary of State for Tourism has considered these plans a unique opportunity to take advantage of all the potentialities of a territory as rich as the province of A Coruña and to move towards a seasonally seasonal tourist model respectful of an environment as privileged as the Galician.
