The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, announced today that the Executive will allocate 3.67 million euros of the funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan for the renovation and improvement of the accessibility of the Redonda station. He did so as part of a visit to the railway terminal accompanied by the mayor, Digna Rivas.
The Railway Infrastructure Manager (ADIF) has come out of the tender for this contract that provides for the creation of two new canopies, on platform 2 and on the nozzle of the lower passage of platform 1, as well as the installation, on the platforms, of new points of light, pavements, equipment and synaletics. It will also equip the new lower step of elevators with lighting and surveillance. No passenger building, the renovation of the lobby, the ceiling, the toilets, the exterior lighting and the access facade to the platforms is planned, the replacement of the current luminaires by low consumption luminaires and the integral treatment of walls, floors and carpentry.
The subdelegate explained that the project also foresees the reorganization of this space by creating a direct passage between the station square and the platforms. In addition, in the current offices for the sale of unused tickets, new toilets will be created, accessible to people with reduced mobility.
Losada reported that a rearrangement of the station square is also contemplated, creating a new parking area, a taxi bag and delimiting the area of the zebra crossing. In addition, one parking space will be reserved for people with reduced mobility and another will have an electric charging point. Finally, it will also plan to replace the pavements of the square, rehabilitate the sanitation system, which is currently in poor condition, and renew both the lighting and the exterior labeling.
“An investment that will transform this building and its environment and that shows, once again, how European funds are reaching all the municipalities of the province and transforming them in all fields, including the improvement of the infrastructures that serve public transport as is the case.”
This project is a follow-up and complementary action to the works of integral renovation of the stretch between Redonda and Vigo-Guixar and its stations, in which the Government will invest 14.1 million euros. A project that foresees, among other improvements in the roundabout facilities, the construction of a new platform and central roof, as well as a new lower step between platforms.
