The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted from Calvos de Randín the government’s commitment to the “green transition” in the concellos of the demographic challenge, highlighting its commitment to municipalism. Pedro Blanco was interested in the initiatives promoted by the city council, chaired by the mayor Aquilino Valencia, in line with the social dynamization from the local. These initiatives have as a framework of action the recovery of heritage “for the benefit of a large part of the population,” he said. The delegate was also accompanied by the subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Emilio González.
The delegate detailed the importance and the impulse that has been given through the Ministry of Ecological Transition with the “green transition” of rural municipalities, which in the case of Calvos de Randín translate into an investment of more than 250,000 euros for improvement of sanitation and water purification. It is an action that is being carried out through the Mi⦅⦆ -Sil Hydrographic Confederation and that Pedro Blanco highlighted as “an action that represents a great step for a small town hall”.
This type of initiative characterizes the concellos of the demographic challenge, among which is this of Calvos de Randín, a category of municipalities established by the Government of Pedro Sánchez to designate and support municipalities with less than 5,000 inhabitants that require a plan to tackle the depopulation and abandonment of the rural.
The delegate highlighted how the Government tends hand in hand to the concellos to advance in their improvement and dissemination, “always for the benefit of the men and women who reside and have their lives here, of the youth and of the businessmen and businesswomen who want to live in rural and also to live in rural”, he stressed.
The delegate highlighted the Government’s support for projects that are in line with its policies regarding the Demographic Challenge, which is accessible to all those who submit actions with these goals. This is something that favors communication between administrations to achieve, among all of them, an integrated Galician territory and adapted to the new forms of work and opportunities, which proved effective in the face of the depopulation suffered by these territories.
Government investments in Calvos de Randín
The delegate and the mayor reviewed at the meeting the support of the Government to the Concello de Calvos de Randín in recent years, in which it benefited from aid of 83,000 euros with which the local administration financed the renovation of public lighting.
In addition, Calvos de Randín benefits from the UNICO-Broadband program, which is executed by the Government to complete the digitization of the Galician territory. This program will enable a high-performance internet connection, which will also cover a total of 259 real estate units, which in practice means the complete digitization of the municipal territory providing access with speeds of 300Mbs.
