The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, closed today the conference on the “Legal framework applicable to foreign women victims of gender violence”, which took place at the headquarters of the Subdelegation of the Government and in which half a hundred professionals participated, mostly in the field of social services, representatives of institutions and of the State Security Forces and Corps.
The day, which was coordinated by the Gender Violence Unit of the Government Subdelegation and was taught by the head of the Office of Foreigners of the Government Subdelegation in Pontevedra, Juan Carlos Vázquez, is part of the programming of activities organized on the occasion of International Women's Day. Vázquez outlined the legal framework applicable to foreign women victims of gender violence, taking into account all possible cases, as well as the protection that the current regulations establish for their sons and daughters.
During his speech, Abel Losada stressed that “we look at the numbers of foreign women victims of gender violence, the VioGén system accounts in the province for a total of 286 active cases, which are conditioning the lives of 284 women.”
The deputy delegate pointed out that these women are added, as victims, to their status as migrants. “They are women who are, therefore, doubly discriminated against and vitimized: as women and as migrants,” she explained.
Abel Losada wanted to invite “the intersectional and joint work of all administrations and society to protect them,” remembering that it is “crucial to recognize and make visible their special vulnerability.”
To do so, he stressed that “the Government of Pedro Sánchez will continue to keep feminism at the center of its policies, and will continue to bring resources closer”. In this regard, the deputy delegate recalled that the Executive allocated to Galicia about 70 million euros to finance actions to prevent and combat male violence, “multiplying almost by three the resources available for the last four years.” In addition, he stressed that in the last year, the municipalities of Pontevedra “received more than half a million euros for this type of actions.”
