Abel Losada supervises the improvement of pedestrian road safety on the N-120 in Ponteareas after the installation of a new traffic light

The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, described as “very important for improving road safety” the installation of the new traffic light that regulates pedestrian traffic on the N-120 road at an intersection near the point on the Tela river in Ponteareas. The new signalling device was installed the request of the N-120 Platform.
Abel Losada pointed out that the performance “responds to a commitment to the neighborhood of Ponteareas” and recalled that “in addition, it is one of the first things they asked me after my appointment as a subdelegate of the Government there is a two months”. The subdelegate supervised the operation of the traffic light on a visit that also included the mayor, Nava Castro, representatives of the N-120 Platform and the provincial head of Roads, Pablo Domínguez.
He stressed that this measure “is the first step for the definitive transformation and improvement of the road safety of the N-120, which also evidences the commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez and this Subdelegation with the City of Ponteareas and its neighborhood.” “Never before has a serious document been drafted to tender the works,” he recalled.
The project to improve the safety and #pedestrian permeability of the N-120 between the town of Ponteareas and the upper Confurco will affect approximately 5 kilometers of route, which is currently dangerous. It runs through the parishes of Xinzo, Arnoso and Areas and has an estimated budget after the last design of 5.26 million euros (VAT included).
The initial project was approved in March 2022 and had 6 roundabouts to reorder all the accesses, run a pedestrian path, improve the “transversal permeability”, asphalt the entire stretch and improve the signage and beaconing. After the public exhibition, the arguments of the City Council and the Platform to include two new roundabouts were collected, with a total of 8. This complementary project, approved in December 2023, has just finished its public exhibition.
During today’s visit the City Council gave the subdelegate the new arguments presented to the complementary project, which are already being studied, so that soon the final project will be approved with which to give way to the tender procedure.
The deputy delegate insisted on the commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez to execute this work and hopes that the State budgets for the year 2024 will be approved as soon as possible to continue taking steps in the improvement of this infrastructure. Abel Losada recalled that faced with the commitments of the current Government of Spain “previous administrations made promises that never materialized”.
Meeting with the platform
After checking the installation of the traffic light, the subdelegate of the Government held a working meeting with the N-120 Platform in the social center of the parish of Xinzo, one of those affected by the project, to inform their representatives in detail of the progress in the action, as well as the complementary project with the two new glorietas contemplated.
Abel Losada highlighted the close collaboration of the Subdelegation with both the City Council and the neighborhood so that “the project of transformation of this road is accepted and valued socially and institutionally.” The subdelegate thanked the receptiveness of the Platform and, in particular, its spokesperson, Luis campos, with whom he toured the facilities of the parish social center to learn about its sociocultural activity.
