The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, today in Vilalba encouraged the Just Transition Councils to submit projects to the new line of aid for 25 million euros that will be opened on January 20 by the Ministry of Ecological Transition for the improvement of the provision of social services, ecological transition and entrepreneurship in areas affected by the closure of thermal power plants.
During a visit to the Concello de Vilalba, where he held a meeting with the mayor of the town, Marta Rouco, the delegate explained that this is a new opportunity for eligible projects presented by the local authorities to the previous call, which met the technical criteria and which were not awarded due to the high level of participation reached and the budgetary limit. In Galicia there are 19 concellos who can qualify for this aid.
The grants, which will be resolved through competitive competition, are aimed at projects in real estate, public spaces and public property. They will allow the rehabilitation and transformation for new uses of goods, spaces and lands of public ownership that reinforce the social, environmental and digital component of these spaces or help the creation of new ones.
Precisely, the delegate and the mayor took the opportunity to visit a property that the Concello wants to recover to add value to the Camino de Santiago as it passes through the municipality and that would be susceptible to this aid from the Ministry of Ecological Transition. They also reviewed other projects that are being carried out in Vilalba, such as the pedestrianisation of the urban center, the rehabilitation of the Parador or the renovation of the Town Hall or the exterior lighting of the villa, among others.
Pedro Blanco pointed out the need to support the municipalities, especially the smallest ones, in the improvement of their services and infrastructures to stop the loss of population in rural areas and to guarantee their inhabitants a future with equal opportunities for all.
Along these lines are the grants called Ecological Transition, since they promote the quality of life in these municipalities through the improvement of social, cultural, green infrastructure and entrepreneurial services, and they also contribute to establishing population in these territories.
