The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, supervised today in Palas de Rei the works of execution of the viaduct on the Pambre River, within the Palas de Rei-Melide section of the A-54 motorway between Lugo and Santiago. The delegate was accompanied by the president of the Transport Committee of the Congress of Deputies, José Ramón Gómez Besteiro.
The viaduct over the Pambre River will allow the passage of the A-54 motorway over the Pambre River, saving a valley of great natural beauty and great patrimonial and ethnographic wealth. The viaduct is solved with a single board for both roads, composed of a total of 16 holes
The delegate highlighted the technical complexity of this element, from which the construction of the central vain, 87 meters long, is now beginning. And it advanced that the Pambre will become the longest viaduct in the road network of the province of Lugo, with about one kilometer in length.
Pedro Blanco stressed the commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez with the completion of this high-capacity route, which will structure from next year the interior of Galicia and will allow to reduce by half the current travel time between Lugo and Santiago de Compostela. The Ministry of Transport is currently working on the last two stretches of 28 kilometers and a joint investment of more than 192 million euros. The new A-54 motorway will also definitively improve the road safety of the current N-547, both road and pedestrian, where there are currently important transits of pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago.
