The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted in Pol the work developed by the concellos to carry out projects that promote a social dynamization from the local. Pedro Blanco traveled this week to Pol where he was interested in the initiatives promoted by the Government chaired by Lino Rodríguez and opting for the different calls for ministerial aid. These initiatives have as a framework of action the sports area, “for the benefit of a large part of the population,” he said.
The delegate recalled that Pol’s proposals opted for aid in which the municipalities of the demographic challenge, among which is this concello, are priorities. And he recalled that this category of municipalities was established by the Government of Pedro Sánchez to designate and support municipalities with less than 5,000 inhabitants that require a plan to tackle depopulation and rural abandonment.
The delegate, accompanied by the subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez and the mayor of the municipality, Lino Rodríguez, said that “the work carried out by the administrations of these municipalities is fundamental so that they can move forward and build more lively and dynamic municipalities, putting a stop to the despoboation of the rural and betting on the sustainability and expansion of services, making life in it more attractive and promoting advances that put the people who inhabit it at the center.”
One of the projects that the mayor presented to the delegate consists of the adaptation and installation of residences for athletes who come to the municipality and give them a place to stay overnight, which will allow to revitalize much more the sports area of the region of Meira and specifically Pol. This project has a budget valuation of almost 600,000 euros and was presented to the Higher Sports Council, attached to the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports,
In addition to this request, the mayor detailed to the delegate the project presented to the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge in the amount of 508,789 euros, of which the city will take charge of 50,000 euros to provide a better service in this area. This assistance will allow the hiring of staff and monitors for the realization of sports activities or camps.
With these two requests, the delegate confirmed the commitment of the City Council to promote and specialize the areas of activities, declaring that “Pol demonstrates the great progress it is making with its sports area, expanding it and attracting people from outside the place.”
The delegate advanced satisfaction with projects that are in the same line as the policies of the Government in which it respects the Demographic Challenge, which favors communication between administrations to achieve, among all, a Galician territory integrated and adapted to the new forms of work and opportunities that proved effective in the face of the depopulation suffered by these territories.
Government investments in Pol
The delegate and the mayor reviewed at the meeting the support of the Government to the City of Pol in these years. Thus, Pol benefited from two grants worth 922,000 euros with which the local administration financed the renovation of public lighting and also the rehabilitation of the old rectoral house to turn it into a social center.
In addition, the Concello de Pol benefits from the UNICO-Broadband program, which is executed by the Government to complete the digitization of the Galician territory. In Pol, this program will enable the high-performance internet connection to 1,511 homes and businesses.
