The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, valued the nearly 500 million euros that the government deploys in Galicia for actions related to the fight against the depopulation of the rural environment and the demographic challenge. He did so during a visit to the concello de Ribeira de Piquín, in which he was accompanied by the mayor of the town, Roberto Fernández; the mayor of Vegadeo, César Álvarez, and the deputy delegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, where he highlighted the relentless work done by the Government of Pedro Sánchez so that these concellos have the same opportunities as the other municipalities.
Pedro Blanco pointed out that this unprecedented investment effort translates into initiatives that dynamize regions such as the Lucense mountain. Today, in Ribeira de Piquín he had the opportunity to know the facilities of Forescelta for the production of Celtic pork, which is a reality in part thanks to the support of the Government, which allocated more than 500,000 euros for its implementation. “These investments are a good sign that we are facing this challenge with facts and not with good words; facts that have an impact on the towns and parishes of Galicia and with which we seek to invigorate the economy, generate new jobs and fix population,” said the delegate.
In this regard, he highlighted the role of the concellos, the administration closest to the citizenry, in responding to the problems associated with the demographic challenge. Pedro Blanco put Ribeira de Piquín as an example of cooperation and joint work between administrations. “From the Government we want to ensure that neighbors like those of Ribeira de Piquín have the best infrastructure, equipment and public services. Therefore, through the funds of the Recovery Plan, we will digitize the entire municipality, bringing high-speed fiber to 500 homes/companies” announced the delegate, “another example of the commitment of this Government with the transformation of the Galician rural”.
Business initiatives
The Celtic pork production center of Ribeira de Piquín is one of the initiatives that are being developed in this concello with the support of the Government, to which is also added the recovery of the old abandoned fish farm of Santalla for the production of trout or the creation of a polygon with more than 15 hectares of surface rented to the neighbors for the production of kiwi in ecological.
“Innovative projects like this, based on sustainability, are fundamental for the future of Galicia,” said the delegate, who said that the Galician rural “is not alone or empty today, since it has the support of the Government of Pedro Sánchez.”
