María Moliner Awards
The María Moliner Awards are funded by the Ministry of Culture and Sport through the General Directorate of Books, Comics and Reading, with a total investment of 1.1 million euros and in which the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces also collaborates. They are aimed at municipalities with less than 50,000 inhabitants, rewarding the best projects or activities of reading dynamization developed in their libraries.
The selection process is carried out by analyzing a series of criteria, taking into account the clarity and interest of the project for reading animation, good planning and feasibility, as well as originality.
This program is of great strategic importance, since approximately half of the Spanish population resides in municipalities with less than 50,000 inhabitants, so the initiative has a wide reach over the territory. In this edition, 562 municipalities throughout Spain were presented, awarding the 370 libraries, which dedicate the prize to the purchase of books or periodicals by libraries.
