The subdelegate of the Government, Isabel Rodríguez, visited today the Red Cross ship of the Industrial Estate of the Gandaras and the warehouse of the Food Bank to check the development of the last phase of the "2023 Program of food aid to the most disadvantaged people" launched by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food through the Spanish Agrarian Guarantee Fund. There, he highlighted the commitment that the Government is making with about 8,263 Lucenses, allocating this program 250,994 kilos of food through an investment of 447,805 euros. For the whole of Spanish society, 36 million kilos of food will be delivered with a value of 88.5 million euros in this last phase.
The deputy delegate, accompanied by the head of the Agriculture Service of the Government Subdelegation, Enrique Fernández, together with the president of the Food Bank of Lugo, Amadora Núñez, and the President of the Red Cross in Lugo, Luis Abejera, highlighted the joint work of the Government and NGOs, which “make possible the support of the most vulnerable people and groups.” The subdelegate was able to see the effort of the Red Cross and the Food Bank to “deliver food to meet the needs of the population at risk of poverty.”
Isabel Rodríguez reported that with this second and last phase of the 2023 program “we strengthen one of the many commitments that the Government has with society helping the many people and families with adverse situations after the various situations that we were experiencing, such as the COVID crisis”.
The subdelegate verified with this visit to the centers that the storage and distribution work is being done correctly so that the collaborating organizations are in charge of moving the products to the citizens, highlighting that “they are key for campaigns like this to be developed correctly and reach who needs it.”
Among the products that are delivered there are durable and unperishable foods such as rice, cooked chickpeas, cooked beans, canned tuna, sardine preserve, meat preserve, pasta, fried tomato, biscuits, vegetable macedonia, canned fruit, soluble cocoa and children’s fruit jars.
