The Subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, inaugurated today the Penitentiary Day on new treatment models organized on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the Penitentiary Center of Teixeiro that was held at the Faculty of Law of the University of A Coruña.
In her speech, the subdelegate highlighted the work of all prison staff who work every day to defend values of “reintegration, education and training”, which makes the Spanish penitentiary system an “international reference”.
In this same vein, María Rivas highlighted the functioning of the national penitentiary system “for the effectiveness of the legislation, for the Criminal Law and for the professionals of the Law that are fundamental for the correct development of the system”.
The assistant delegate described as a “huge success” the long road traveled by the Social Integration Centers of A Coruña and the Prison Center of Teixeiro, which with projects such as the Nelson Mandela respect module, offer training to improve the professional skills and social skills of inmates and inmates. “Two models that fill me with pride and that are at the same time an example in the Spanish penitentiary system,” said Rivas.
María Rivas recalled that custodial sentences must be aimed at the inclusion, re-education and reintegration of inmates and inmates in society and that, therefore, concepts such as “mental health, respect, equality and therapeutic management” are fundamental to the achievement of these objectives.
In this regard, the subdelegate highlighted the work carried out by the centers of Teixeiro and the CIS, Carmela Arias and Díaz de Rábago to make their work known to society.
