Ourense, September 23, 2023.- The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Emilio González, described the Pereiro de Aguiar Penitentiary Center as a leading center in the preparation, training, offer of activities and rehabilitation of inmates to achieve their reintegration into society, and highlighted the important work and good performance of the officials working in it. This was indicated in the course of the institutional event held in the center of Pereiro de Aguiar on the occasion of the celebration of the holiday of Penitentiary Institutions for the Day of Mercy.
In the central event, Emilio González highlighted the fundamental role of officials, because their work "is fundamental for society to advance in the search for justice, freedom and security."
In this vein, he thanked them for their work and congratulated them on their work, which was reflected in the presentation of medals and mentions in the act carried out in the penitentiary center directed by Francisco González.
He also recognized the work of associations, groups, volunteers who work with inmates, both during their time in prison and after their release, and who help the Pereiro de Aguiar Penitentiary Center to stand out and prosper in a relevant way. .
The subdelegate of the Government stressed that in the Spanish penitentiary system the penitentiary centers must be considered as a "school of citizenship that helps to build a better coexistence, and that allows the inmates to resume the behaviors that led to the deprivation of liberty". To this end, it advocated the promotion of the human and material resources necessary for the educational, sociological and psychological training of the prison population, as well as for real social and labour integration once they are released from prison.
The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense concluded his speech by extending the gratitude and recognition of the Government to the State Security Forces and Bodies and the judiciary.
Award and recognition delivery
During the commemorative event of the Penitentiary Institutions Holiday, an honorable mention was given to two female officers and one female officer with 25 years of service, four bronze medals were given to the social merit of the penitentiary center. In addition, special recognitions granted by the Board of Directors of the penitentiary center were given to the College of Journalists and the Viogen Unit of the Government Subdelegation for the Travelling Suitcase Project, among others.

Viogen Subdelegation Unit and Travel Suitcase project
The Travelling Suitcase against gender violence was very well received at the Pereiro de Aguiar Penitentiary Centre, with the participation of around 50 inmates and inmates. At first they presented it to the women's module, and due to the great success it had, they took it to the men's module of the Intrapenitentiary Therapeutic Community (CTI). Its objective is to provide readings on feminist issues, gender violence, empowerment and self-esteem especially in women and promote critical thinking in the face of gender stereotypes and roles that are perpetuated in society.
Among the activities, staff from the National Police, Civil Guard, Local Police and Prison Management and Alternative Measures were invited to talks and colloquiums to exchange views and help inmates and prisoners. The planned stay at the center was 3 months, but due to the good reception and participation, MAVI was in the Prereiro de Aguiar Penitentiary Center from October 21, 2022 to May 12, 2023.
