The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, approached Cee to visit, together with the mayor Margarita Lamela, the environment of the CEIP Vila de Cee, where it is planned that the end of August will begin work for the rehabilitation and improvement of pedestrian access. The project has an investment of 541,461.36 euros and is part of the agreement between the Ministry of Health and the FEMP to promote healthy lifestyles in cities and towns.
The works aim to create pedestrian itineraries, safe and accessible, order and improve the public space in favor of friendly and sustainable mobility, promote healthy lifestyles between users of the Vila de Cee school and the municipal sports center and the reorganization of traffic and its parking in the environment.
This funding will allow the creation of new sidewalks in the Rúa da Escola, with accessible widths of a minimum of 1.80 meters and a continuous route, which means the creation of a space of coexistence that prioritizes and favors pedestrian mobility between the school and the sports center.
In addition, an accessible pedestrian path will be opened that connects the sidewalks of Fernando Blanco Avenue with the new sidewalks of San Adrián Street and the new shared space in the school environment, next to the river Cee.Tambiin the installation of urban furniture and signage, as well as the adaptation of the rainstorm collection network and the renovation of the public lighting network, adapting it to the configuration of the space.
The Government’s deputy, María Rivas, recalled that, in addition to being part of the healthy cities project, Cee was one of the 18 projects subsidized throughout Spain and the only one in Galicia in addition to the Provincial Council of Pontevedra and the City of Vigo. Rivas stressed the “government’s commitment to improve the lives of neighbors and neighbors, in a transversal way in all areas”
A subdelegada expressed her satisfaction “since I know that with this action, a historically demanded work is served that allows the people of this town to move in a healthy and sustainable way within the urban center”.
María Rivas highlighted the fact that in this environment, in addition to the Vila de Cee school and the municipal sports center, there is also the residential house of the Aspadex association, Non-Profit Association for People with Intellectual Disability, “without doubt the improvement of mobility in this area will contribute to the improvement of the lives of these people and their families”
The Program for the creation and rehabilitation of healthy environments is included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Government of Spain. The Government allocates to the same 18.4 million euros between 2021 and 2023, of which 6.4 correspond to the current financial year 2023.
Thanks to this program, the development of infrastructures for outdoor physical activity, promoting the use of bicycles, the creation of new routes or pedestrian circuits is being promoted.
Local Security Board
The visit to Cee also served to coordinate security in the next Festivities of the Xunqueira, which are held in the municipality between the 13th and the 16th of this month. In this sense, Rivas stressed the “total willingness” to collaborate with the City Council from the Subdelegation and from the State Security Forces and Corps to contribute to that these festivities can be celebrated safely and calmly “so that the thousands of people who come here year after year can enjoy these festivities with intensity”.
The festivities of the Xunqueira will also have a violet point in which information will be received against any type of male violence and to which you can go to request help if necessary.
The subdelegate recalled that these will be the first patron saint’s feasts with the Virgin of the Xunqueira crowned and also the first with the recognition of the church of Santa María de la Xunqueira with the title of sanctuary.
During the visit, the subdelegate took the opportunity to sign the Honours Book of the City Council.
