The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, confirmed today the total willingness and collaboration of the Government of Spain to guarantee the security of the 49th edition of the Rise to Chantada, which will take place from July 14 to 16 . Isabel Rodríguez traveled to the municipality this Monday to preside, together with the mayor, Manuel Lorenzo Varela, the Xunta of Safety of the test, “a great challenge for athletes and a great economic and social revulsive for the whole region that, again, will become for a few days the focus of attention of runners and supporters of motorsport,” he said.
The subdelegate in the province explained that “from the Subdelegation of the Government we collaborate with the organization in the security of the race, for which this weekend will make a special effort both the agents of the Civil Guard and those of the Traffic subsector.” In the device, the agents will be deployed along the route of the test and on the roads near it, ensuring the safety of competitors and the more than 5,000 fans who will approach Chantada to enjoy the competition.
On the other hand, he highlighted “the great work during all these years” of the Chantada Shield, presided over by Alfonso Viana, and asked all fans and athletes to take extreme precautions, respecting the safety standards set by the organization. The Ascent to Chantada has an itinerary of 4.1 kilometers, which goes from the road of Lalín to that of Gudiña, passing through the Old Bridge and the confluence with the road of Chantada and Monforte de Lemos.
Isabel Rodríguez highlighted the importance of this event, which is valid for the Spanish Mountain Championship, both for its sporting values and for the “magnificent showcase that it represents for the promotion of Chantada and the Ribeira Sacra”. This year, the Climb to Chantada will have the participation of about 50 teams and more than 80 pilots from within and had been from Spain, among which stand out names such as the Italian leader of the European Mountain Championship, Christian Merli; the German Alexander Hin and the Spanish Joseba Iraola.
