Isabel Rodríguez praises in Vilalba the work of the IES Santiago Basanta Silva with the promotion of reading, recognized by the Ministry of Education with the 1st Prize of the Spanish Reading Club
The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, today in Vilalba congratulated the teaching and management team of the IES Santiago Basanta Silva for their great work in promoting reading among the students of the center, after being recognized with the first award in the School Reading Clubs Awards throughout Spain, in the modality of Secondary Schools, granted by the Ministry of Education and Professional Training. He did so during a visit this Tuesday, accompanied by the acting mayor, Elba Velero; the Councilor for Education, Anta Rama; as well as the director of the institute, Mari Trillo; and the head of the project, Sabela Tenreiro; to know first-hand the activities they carry out in the Reading Club `Souls of ink´.
Isabel Rodríguez praised the involvement of the staff of the Vilalbés center to offer a programming, focused on literature, attractive to students of all ages, which shows the good work of the centers of the province. In addition, the subdelegate encouraged them to continue in this line of work that will impact on an educational improvement and the professional future of the students themselves.
The educational project has more than 100 participants, from all levels of secondary and baccalaureate education, as well as a group of adults composed of teachers and neighbors of the municipality. “You are an example of the importance of promoting plans aimed at the development and growth of raptors and girls through reading, with daily times dedicated to it, training competent readers, one of the great objectives of the educational system,” said the subdelegate.
In this regard, Isabel Rodríguez said that this recognition of the Government is accompanied by a financial contribution of 4,500 euros aimed at carrying out activities “to make reading break the structural gaps and become a real social habit”.
`Souls of ink´
The reading club of the IES Santiago Basanta Silva has been serving for ten years as a neuralgic network for the center’s activities, carrying out camping in the library, acts of presentation of authors, radio talk shows, literary routes or theatrical performances, which come from literature and the reading of titles such as Aire Negro by Agustín Fernández, Frankestein or Verne and the secret life of the women plant of Ledicia Costas, among numerous titles.
Regarding this, the subdelegate in the province stressed that the initiative of this center goes beyond books, starting from them, “there are numerous activities of different artistic manifestations that have come from the center and that make culture attractive to Vilalbesa society, offering original ideas, points of view and new knowledge, impregnating in the citizens a great work of dynamization.”
During the meeting, the teachers explained that each quarter the teachers choose one or two books, based on their own experiences or proposals of the students and at the end of reading it, carry out an activity related to the subject of the same.
