Galicia closes the year 2022 among the three safest communities in Spain, according to the data of the Criminality balance that has been made public today by the Ministry of the Interior. The statistics, accessible and open to the public, confirm that Galicia improves three positions in the national computation (from the sixth position to the third) and is in the best position since the current statistics are computed.
The statistics of the Ministry show that the crime rate for the fourth and last quarter of the year was 35.3 criminal offenses per 1,000 inhabitants, one and a half points lower than in the third quarter of the year, the immediately preceding one. This translates into a change of trend compared to the rest of the year. With regard to the national rate (48.8), Galicia is more than 13 points below.
In parallel, Galicia reached in 2022 the highest number of National Police and Civil Guard troops in its history, reaching 8,756 agents of both bodies. This figure is 6.4% higher than the previous year and is a reflection of the determined impulse of the Government of Pedro Sánchez to recover some staff affected by years of budget cuts and lack of adequate replenishments.

In absolute terms, the Crime Balance of 2022 states that between January and December 95,048 criminal offenses were known in Galicia, of which 25,981 were scams. Of these, 18,547 scams, 20% of the total number of crimes, were committed through telematic means.
