The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, today highlighted the commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez to guarantee 100% coverage of high-speed internet access in the province of Lugo. Isabel Rodríguez traveled this morning to Lucense Mountain where she visited the municipalities of Cervantes and As Nogais, present in the two calls for proposals of the UNICO-Broadband Program, developed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation with 22.5 million of the Recovery Plan for the province of Lugo, bringing broadband connection with ultra-fast speed to 1,300 families and companies of the two municipalities of Lugo.
In both localities, the deputy delegate met with her mayors, Benigno Rivera and Jesús Núñez, to inform them, in addition, about the Government’s available programs in housing, ecological transition and public administration, and at the same time know their demands and concerns.
“With the UNICO-Broadband Program, the Government wants to tackle the digital divide that affects, above all, the rural environment, and thus fight the depopulation of municipalities, facilitating access to broadband internet to neighbors who live in municipalities such as Cervantes and As Nogais, with a lot of population dispersion and numerous rural centers,” said Isabel Rodríguez.
In the case of the province of Lugo, like Galicia, the households and companies benefiting from this initiative are in ‘white zones’, those that do not have coverage of speed networks of at least 30 Mbps, nor plans for their endowment for the next three years. “With this plan we ensure that Cervantes and As Nogais will have connectivity of more than 300 megas in practically the entire territory, in 533 areas that today do not have this type of coverage, fundamental in the current world,” said Isabel Rodríguez.
Specifically, in the City of Cervantes, the UNICO Program will digitize 264 areas where there is currently no such connection and where 663 families and companies are located. In the Nogais, 279 connection projects will be executed to bring this service to 610 homes and companies of this City Hall. “
In order to guarantee the survival of the smallest municipalities and fight against depopulation from the administrations we have to commit to digital connectivity and high-speed internet access throughout the territory” stressed the subdelegate. In this line, he recalled that between the two calls for this Plan, the Government of Pedro Sánchez will bring high-speed connection technology to more than 32,700 homes and companies in the province.
UNICO-Banda Ancha aims to provide a coverage rate of very high capacities to 100% of the Spanish population in 2025. Once the beneficiary projects already implemented are implemented, the coverage rate will reach 95% of the entire national territory.
