The government delegate in Galicia, José Miñones, exemplified this week in the City of Castroverde the impact that the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Government is having in rural municipalities. “Castroverde is an example of how the Government of Pedro Sánchez has as a priority to promote digitalization and promote the social and territorial cohesion of the country, with special attention to those municipalities affected by the phenomenon of depopulation,” he said.
José Miñones traveled to the City of Castroverde together with the subdelegate in the province, Isabel Rodríguez. There, he held a meeting with the mayor, José María Arias, to address the state investments in the municipality and present the available lines for housing, ecological transition and public administration, and also collect their demands and opinions.
During the meeting, José Miñones announced the presence of Castroverde in the two calls for digitization of the territory promoted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation through the UNICA Broadband Program. “We are aware of the importance for rural people of universal access to the Internet, so that the neighbors who live in these municipalities have the same rights and guarantees as anywhere else,” said the delegate, who acknowledged that “Castroverde is one of the many Galician municipalities to which the ultra-fast broadband of more than 300 megas is reaching with a project that is a priority for the Government of Spain.”
Thus, Castroverde is included in the high-speed Internet projects financed by the Ministry with European funds and which are carried out with two calls already resolved: the one for 2021, which is already in execution; and the call for 2022, already awarded. The Ministry finances up to 90% of the costs (technological, works, permits, etc.) with this program. Those that technological companies incur to bring the high-speed connection (greater than 300MB) to areas without coverage. Between the two calls for the Single Plan, the Government invests 12.3 million euros in the province of Lugo to bring high-speed connection technology to more than 32,700 homes and companies in the province.
In the case of Castroverde, the UNICO Program will enable the high-speed connection of 136 points in which 296 homes and companies are located: “We are talking about guaranteeing connectivity with more than 300 megas to practically the entire territory of this municipality, in 136 areas that today do not have this type of coverage, fundamental in the current world,” said the government delegate.
