The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, today encouraged the neighbors of Xermade to take the opportunity to participate in the courses of the Mentor classroom offered by the Government, with the collaboration of the City Council, “which seek to promote equal access to training and contribute to reduce the digital divide.” The deputy delegate visited this morning the facilities of the Mentor classroom, located in the municipal library, accompanied by the mayor of Xermade, Roberto García, and the deputy mayor, José Prieto.
Isabel Rodríguez highlighted the non-regulated distance training program for adults promoted by the Ministry of Education and Professional Training “because it is a great opportunity for people living in rural areas, and especially in less populated municipalities, since it allows them to access quality training, adjusted to the labor demand, while acquiring digital skills, fundamental to develop successfully in society.”
In addition, the subdelegate explained that the Mentor classroom is an initiative that offers online training, flexible and with specialized titorization. It is aimed at people over 18 years old and has a catalogue of more than 170 courses classified by training areas with which to expand personal and professional competences. Every year, the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training calls for grants to local institutions for classroom maintenance.
The City of Xermade obtained an aid of 4,000 euros for the creation of its Classroom Mentor and the collaboration between the two entities was regulated in an agreement signed in 2021. In this regard, Isabel Rodríguez congratulated the councillor for his initiative that has allowed, for a year, the neighbors of Xermade to access online training, both from their home and in five computers that the City Council puts at their disposal in the Municipal Library. Through the Mentor classroom you can obtain training in areas such as administration and management, agriculture and gardening, electricity and electronics, hospitality and tourism, computer and communications, security and environment, health, installation and maintenance or graphic arts, among others.
The courses are officially valid and once they have been passed, a certificate of achievement issued by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training is obtained. The cost of the courses is 24 euros per month and the duration depends on the time spent by each student, since it is a distance and flexible training. The registration period is open all year round, except for the month of August, except for the Desparramo and Teacher Training courses, for which there are specific dates. 9 Mentor classrooms in the province
In the province of Lugo, with the province of Xermade, there are currently 9 Mentor Classrooms. Specifically, in Burela, Barreiros, Guitiriz, Friol, Lugo, Sober, Láncara and Monforte de Lemos. The objective of the Government, within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, is that these classrooms reach 3,000 municipalities in the country in the coming years, with special interest in those of less than 5,000 inhabitants and belonging to rural Spain, as in the case of Xermade. For that, it is going to allocate a total of 9 million euros.
