The spring of 2025 in Extremadura doubles the reference values in terms of rainfall
The territorial delegate of the AEMET in Extremadura, Marcelino Núñez, has today made public the climate balance of last spring season and the forecasts for the summer, which begins on Saturday, June 21 at 04:42 hours.
The delegate of the State Meteorological Agency has pointed out that last quarter has been very humid in terms of rainfall recorded in the region, with temperatures in normal values.
Precipitation
The average rainfall for the entire region during the spring was 323.9 liters/m², being much higher than the reference value for this quarter: 148.9 litres/m². We have therefore had, and on average for the whole of Extremadura, an average surplus of 175 liters/m². That is, in this quarter the rainfall represented 218% of the reference value.
The March-April-May quarter was the second wettest of the reference period (1991-2020), in Extremadura.
The balance of accumulated rainfall during the hydrological year (from October 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025) has been classified as very humid. An average of 715 litres/m² has been recorded, the reference being 528.1 litres/m², that is, the rainfall recorded in the aforementioned period has resulted in a surplus of 186.9 litres/m². The precipitation of what we have been in the hydrological year 2024-2025 has therefore accounted for 135% of the reference value.
Temperatures
In Extremadura, the average temperature of the March-April-May quarter of 2025 was 14.9ºC, while the average reference temperature is 15.0ºC, which means that we had a negative anomaly of 0.1º C. Regarding the average value that allows us to classify this quarter as normal in terms of temperatures.
The March-April-May quarter was the 15th warmest quarter of the reference period (1991-2020), or the 17th coldest in that period.
Summer forecast
For the months of June-July-August in Extremadura:
- There is a greater probability that the temperatures will be higher than the reference climate values 1991-2020.
- Precipitation is more likely to be among the 1991-2020 reference climatological values. There is no sign that they will be higher or lower than normal.
