According to the latest statistics published by the National Social Security Institute (INSS), the Minimum Vital Income (IMV) payroll reached in April to 26,834 households in Extremadura where 81,626 people live. The average amount of the benefit is 428.26 euros per household and, overall, this month's payroll has amounted to 12.53 million euros.
In the month of January, there are 5,370 active benefits more than there were a year ago, which means an increase of 25.02%. These households are home to 17,072 beneficiaries more than those registered in April 2024 (+26.45%).
In cumulative terms since June 2020, when this benefit was launched, in the midst of a pandemic, the IMV has reached 36,879 homes and has protected the 108,974 people who are part of them; 46,127 of them are children and adolescents, 42.3% of the total.
Since the entry into force of this policy, Social Security has allocated 451 million euros to the payroll of IMV benefits in Extremadura.
Underage
The IMV is a benefit aimed at preventing the risk of poverty and social exclusion of people who live alone or are integrated in a coexistence unit and lack basic economic resources. In addition, one of its main objectives is to address child poverty.
74% of the living units receiving this benefit in Extremadura are homes with minors (19,860). Among them, there are 4,492 single-parent households. If we look at the profile of the beneficiaries of the IMV, 40.5% are minors: 33,129
The IMV beneficiaries are also characterized by having a strong female profile. In April, 76.5% of headlines and 53.5% of beneficiaries in Extremadura are women.
On the other hand, the 94.1% of the headlines in the region are of Spanish nationality and their average age is 43 years.
