The government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana, visited today the Agroexpo International Fair, which is held at FEVAL, where he highlighted the crucial role of this type of event as drivers of the primary sector and its associated industry in the region. During its visit, Quintana reiterated the commitment of the Government of Spain to the agricultural and livestock development of Extremadura, a community with enormous agri-food potential.
Agroexpo is an essential meeting point for professionals in the sector, where the latest innovations and technologies are presented, as well as business and collaboration opportunities. “This type of event is fundamental for the strengthening of our agriculture and livestock, and for the promotion of a primary sector that is vital for the economy of Extremadura,” said Quintana.
The government delegate recalled different lines of action of the Ministry of Agriculture such as the payments of direct aid from the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and that in 2024 they have exceeded 330 million euros in Extremadura, a clear reflection of the support of the Government of Spain to the countryside of Extremadura. In addition, it has referred to initiatives such as credit lines through ICO-SAECA, benefiting half a thousand farmers with 2.5 million euros in direct aid and 20 million in subsidized credits. Added to this is the commitment to innovation and modernization of the sector through the Renove Agricultural Machinery Plan, or the more than 37 million euros allocated to 65 innovative projects in the national agri-food sector in which companies and public bodies of the community participate.
Quintana also highlighted the efforts made to mitigate the effects of the drought and the war conflict in Ukraine, which have involved an outlay of 185.9 million euros in aid for 52,000 farmers and ranchers in Extremadura. “This unprecedented budgetary effort demonstrates the government’s commitment to the well-being of our producers and the sustainability of the sector,” he added.
The modernization of irrigation is another of the Government’s priority axes. Currently, investments of 180 million euros are being programmed in 15 actions in the region, such as those carried out by irrigators such as the Orellana Canal and the Zújar Canal. “Efficient water management is essential for a sustainable use of our resources, especially in the context of climate change,” Quintana stressed.
The government delegate also highlighted the participation of eight companies from Extremadura in the PERTE Agro, which promotes quality employment in the agri-food sector and strengthens its competitiveness, as well as two other companies benefiting from aid within the PERTE of Decarbonization, almost from the Extremadura firm Carnes y Vegetal.
The visit of the government delegate highlights the relevance of Agroexpo as a support platform for the primary sector and the firm commitment of the Government of Spain to sustainable development and the future of the Extremadura countryside.
