The government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana, participated today in the Merida Traffic School in the closing of the ‘VII Course of the Traffic Specialty in the Modalities of Motorists and Attested Level C’, where he said that the presence of the traffic agents of the Civil Guard on the roads is a guarantee of security for the citizens. “You are the ones who enforce the rules and you are the ones who ensure that road transport is safe,” said the delegate.
During his speech, Quintana explained the reduction in deaths on the roads of Extremadura in recent years; in 1999 205 deaths were counted and in this year to date 29 have died. “I find it very difficult to speak from a positive perspective of death data; because a single life lost on the roads is already too expensive and a very important personal and family drama.”
In the same way, the delegate has assured that last year was a “negative” year with more than 50 deaths where the factors of the increase were multiple and varied, but thanks to the global public system and the particular commitment of the citizens it has allowed to react quickly and affirm that this year the number of victims has been reduced by 40 percent so far.
Finally, Quintana wanted to highlight the role of the Civil Guard Traffic School, explaining that since its inauguration in 1996, more than 36,000 students have trained in this center, “surely in the most specialized training center of the highest level in the world. You are a world leader”, he concluded.
