The Government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana, accompanied by the Chief General of the Civil Guard of Extremadura, Carlos Sarrión, participated today in the Merida Traffic School in the presentation of the central events commemorating the festivity of the Patroness of the Civil Guard, the Virgen del Pilar.
In his speech, Jose Luis Quintana, highlighted the enormous importance of the Ministry of the Interior having chosen the autonomous capital of Extremadura as the venue for the celebration of the commemorative events of the Civil Guard that are being held in the first week of October coinciding with the proximity of the Patron of the body, the Virgen del Pilar, on October 12.
In this regard, the delegate has highlighted the work carried out by the Civil Guard troops in a region such as Extremadura, while highlighting the fact of the choice of Mérida as a city that hosts the Traffic School, coinciding with the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the creation of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard.
These events are held annually during the week prior to October 12, the day of the Virgen del Pilar, Patron of the Corps, in a city of the national territory, Merida having been elected this year.
This celebration aims to bring the Civil Guard closer to the citizens, making them aware of the specialties of the Corps and the daily work it carries out at the service of society.
The presentation ceremony was also attended by the Mayor of Mérida, Antonio Rodríguez Osuna and the General Secretary of Relations with the Assembly of the Junta de Extremadura, Adoración Gutiérrez Lamoneda.

From September 23 to October 05, you can visit an exhibition of historical photography in the “Noble Courtyard” of the Assembly of Extremadura from 10:00 to 14:00 hours and from 16:00 to 20:00 hours.
October 30th: Flag Raising: in the Plaza de España, at 12 noon, there will be a Tribute and Solemn Raising of the National Flag, which can be attended by people who wish to do so until the capacity is completed. Exhibition “The Civil Guard at the service of the citizens”: at 17 will be inaugurated in the Palacio de Congresos de Mérida, on Avenida del Río s/n, the exhibition “The Civil Guard at the service of the citizens”, which will remain open to the public until next October 13 from 10 to 14 and from 17 to 20 every day.
October 1st: Cinema forum: Screening of the film “All the Names of God” with subsequent colloquium with film staff and actor Roberto Enriz. It will be at 17:00 hours at the María Luisa Theater, Calle Camilo José Cela, 11, with free entrance until complete capacity.
Day 2, October at 17:30 hours in the bullring of the town of Zafra (Badajoz), media exhibition. Entry libra until complete capacity.
Day 4, At 17.30, in the Plaza de Toros Mérida, there will be a demonstration of procedures of action of various Units of the Civil Guard, with specialties such as cavalry, cynology, deactivation of explosives and rescue in mountains, among others. This demonstration can be freely accessed until a capacity has been completed.

Concert at the Roman Theatre: At 20:00 on the same day there will be a music concert at the Roman Theatre. The Music Unit of the Civil Guard will participate together with the Republican National Guard of Portugal, the Official Conservatory of Music of Mérida and the Pilar Vizcaino Music School. The entrance will be free until the capacity is completed.
Military Retreta: at 21:30 hours there will be a Touch of Retreta by members of the Band of Drums that will begin with the Roman Museum, Temple of Diana, Arch of Trajan and Plaza of Spain.
Finally, on October 6, a Military Stop on the Paseo de Roma will take place at 12 noon and then at 13:00 hours, a parade on José Fernández López Avenue, in which members of the various Civil Guard Units, vehicles and the Cavalry Group will participate.
Other acts
On September 28, at the Traffic School of the Civil Guard, Avenida Duque de Ahumada, 1, Mérida, from 07:30 hours, there will be a safe driving course in collaboration with the solidarity association “Moto y vida”.
On September 29, at 09:00 hours there will be a Motorcycle Day with a route that will leave the Traffic School of the Civil Guard and in which different motorcycle associations will participate. Afterwards, once the route is finished there will be a visit to the museum of the Traffic School.
Day 30 of September: At 21:00 hours lighting of emblematic buildings with logo and colors of the Civil Guard. Ignition in the Temple of Diana Calle Romero Leal de Mérida, Badajoz.
On October 1, the “School Workshops” will begin, children’s activities, aimed at primary and secondary school students, which will take place on days 1, 2 and 3, at the Traffic School of the Civil Guard, Avenida Duque de Ahumada, 1, Mérida, with a schedule from 09:30 to 13:30 hours where students will be made aware of the work carried out by different specialties and will be offered advice on road safety, nature protection, as well as experimenting with criminal investigation activities and police intervention, offering schoolchildren the possibility of interacting with agents in the various fields that are presented. This year it will have a children's playground of the General Directorate of Traffic.
On October 3, at 11:00 a.m., a Day of Security Culture “New Challenges of Artificial Intelligence for Security” will take place in the auditorium of the University of Extremadura Avenida de Elvas, s/n, Badajoz.
At 18:00 hours, the Area and Equality of the Civil Guard will organize a meeting of women referents from Extremadura in which professionals from different areas of society will participate in the Assembly of Extremadura Plaza San Juan de Dios s/n, Mérida.
On 4 October, at 9.30 p.m., the Civil Guard will sign at the Traffic School of the Civil Guard, Avenida Duque de Ahumada, 1, Mérida, a protocol with Roadpol (European Network of Traffic Police Units and successor organization of the TISPOL) with the aim of significantly reducing the number of victims in traffic accidents. Also, and in the same place at 10:30 hours there will be a demonstration by the Traffic Group for Baccalaureate students.
At 13:00 hours there will be a recognition of the Tourist Sector of Mérida.
