The government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana, today presented the electoral device that is responsible for the organization of the elections to the European Parliament that will be held on June 9. The State Administration is responsible for organizing these elections and 19,404 citizens will participate in it.
Municipalities, polling stations and polling stations
The electoral processes are organized through the municipalities, being distributed in districts, sections and polling stations. Extremadura has 388 municipalities, 516 districts, 964 sections and a total of 1,399 polling stations located in 792 polling stations. Exact information on the location of polling stations and polling stations is available at local councils and the polling station.
This electoral structure is similar to that of previous elections, although due to the lower complexity of these elections, with a single process, in some localities the number of tables has been reduced to optimize the operation of the device. In all cases where there has been a reduction in tables, the same electoral college is maintained, so this will not cause any confusion for the electors.
In the case of the European elections, the constituency is unique throughout Spain, that is, the candidacies are the same throughout the national territory. Voters will be able to choose between 34 candidates, three more than in the last European elections; for which 15.6 million ballot papers have been printed in Extremadura.
Personal media
This mobilization includes the members of the Electoral Board, the members of the polling stations, the collaborating staff of the municipalities, workers of the Government Delegation and the two subdelegations, as well as other agencies of the State Administration, including the National Institute of Statistics, or Post Office; finally, on that day there are also 3,439 members of the State Security Forces and Corps directly involved; both Civil Guard, National Police and Local Police, who are responsible for ensuring the security of the entire process.

Of all the groups involved in this process, we must highlight the participation of the citizens who exercise as members of the polling stations and who are the guarantee of the cleanliness and transparency of the elections. In addition, it is important to highlight the important effort that is made by all the municipalities in the region so that on election day all the voting points work perfectly.
Another of the groups highlighted are the 828 representatives of the administration, who are responsible for transmitting the different information provided that day; from the constitution of the tables, to the results of the provisional ballot, as well as the two advances of participation that take place on the day of the votes.
The representatives of the administration will have mobile devices to transmit the data quickly and effectively; In addition, they have received specific training on the use of the application for the transmission of the data and on the operation of the voting process so that they can advise, if required, the members of the tables before any doubts that arise. Both in Cáceres and in Badajoz, on the day of the elections there is a special device to attend to any incident that may occur that day.
Electoral census
Spanish residents in Spain, European citizens residing in Spain and Spanish citizens residing abroad will be able to vote in the European elections. The total census stands at 891,727 voters, which is 9,964 less than in the last European elections of 2019.
As for the number of voters who will be able to vote for the first time because they have reached the age of 18, there has been an increase in the case of the European elections of 2019 of 51,746 voters and as for the elections of 2023, the increase of new voters has been 9,212; they are the young people who will vote for the first time in any type of elections.

Accessible voting, Red Cross device and voter transfer
All voting centers in Extremadura meet the requirements to facilitate access for people with reduced mobility. In addition, a device has been established with the Extremadura Red Cross to facilitate access to the voting place for those persons with reduced mobility and/or sick persons who lack their own means to exercise their right to vote.
The Red Cross device is composed of 95 volunteers and 37 vehicles (conventional, adapted and ambulances) that will be located in 32 locations to cover the entire territory of the Autonomous Community of Extremadura.
Any citizen can request the Red Cross transport service through the telephone 927 22 22 22 which is located in the Autonomous Coordination Center of the Red Cross in Extremadura, at 112.
The Government Delegation has also established a mechanism to transfer voters residing in population centres where there are no polling stations. In total, the transfer from 35 population centres without an electoral college has been established in order to facilitate the transfer of voters in accordance with the needs of each of the population centres.
Braille vote and intellectually disabled vote
The Government Delegation has also provided 120 braille voting kits for blind voters who have requested it. These kits are available at the polling stations where these voters are registered, where they are provided upon their arrival and after their identification so that they can freely exercise their right to vote.
Since 2018, those people with intellectual disability, mental illness or cognitive impairment who had been legally incapacitated have regained their right to vote. This measure affects approximately 3,000 Extremeños.
Extremadura has been a pioneer in the installation of informative posters, designed by the Office of Cognitive Accessibility of Extremadura and in collaboration with the Full Inclusion Association, aimed at providing information on the access and exercise of the right to vote of these people. This material, was used by the Ministry of the Interior in the last electoral process of 2023 and was applied in the city of Madrid; now the Ministry has decided to expand the installation of such signage accessible to all the autonomous capitals, so in the case of Extremadura that signage has been sent to the city of Mérida, to proceed to its installation.
However, and given the commitment of this government delegation to accessibility, a copy of this signage has been provided in digital format so that the municipalities themselves can print it and install it in the different electoral colleges. This material is also intended to facilitate access and guidance for older people.
Both the Government Delegation and the Fempex and the Full Inclusion association are at the disposal of the municipalities of the region to advise and collaborate in the proper placement of this signage.
Vote by mail
According to the data currently available to the Electoral Census Office, 14,261 applications for postal voting have been submitted in Extremadura. These requests are 5,570 more than in the 2014 elections (the last time the European elections did not coincide with other elections), which is an increase of 64% compared to 2014.
The deadline for depositing the vote in any post office, once the documentation has been received, ends next Friday, June 7, at 2 p.m.
Information during election day
The Ministry of the Interior has enabled, as in previous processes, a website and an application through which it will be possible to follow in real time the provisional ballot that takes place on the same electoral night.
From this government delegation, all the media will be attended on June 9, at 11:00 a.m. to report on the opening of the polling stations and the possible incidents that could occur in that process.
