The Government delegation in Extremadura and the Junta de Extremadura will strengthen their collaboration in the field of reception and migration. The administrations with competence in this matter have participated today in Badajoz in a meeting presided over by the Government delegate, José Luis Quintana, and in which the Presidential and Health Councillors of the Junta de Extremadura, Abel Bautista and Sara García respectively, as well as the Mayor of Mérida, Antonio Rodríguez Osuna, participated. This meeting takes place after the recent visit to Extremadura of Pilar Cancela, Secretary of State for Migration, and within the implementation of joint response plans in the field of the collaboration of the Government of Spain with the Autonomous Communities.
In this regard, Quintana has stressed the importance of the coordination and collaboration of the Government with the Regional Administration to address the arrival of migrant minors in the region. "What we want is to promote the exchange of information between the different administrations and increase the coordination of the work we have. It is clear that Extremadura is a community of solidarity and under that institutional responsibility we will continue to work in a climate of absolute cordiality, with absolute commitment and exchanging information between the administrations involved," he said.
The government delegate has pointed out that solidarity is not an optional issue when it comes to the protection and guardianship of migrant minors. "This is a problem for Europe. The entry of migrants into Europe now is mainly through the Canaries, therefore, it is a problem for Europe, and it is a problem for Spain. Logically, Spain is a country of solidarity and in that we have to continue working. We have to show solidarity with these people and work to persecute the mafias that, in some way, deceive them, make them ride a skateboard with danger to their person."
Finally, the Government Delegation in Extremadura has recalled the commitment of the Government of Spain to move forward in the protection and reception of migrant minors, putting human rights and social justice at the centre.
