The Government Delegation in Extremadura hosted this morning the Coordination Meeting for the Protection of Victims of Trafficking in Human Beings. The meeting, convened by the Fiscal Ministry, was chaired by the government delegate, José Luis Quintana, and attended by police officers specialized in the investigation of these crimes and representatives of the Labour and Social Security Inspectorate.
These types of coordination meetings are included in the Framework Protocol for the Protection of Victims of Trafficking in Human Beings and serve to establish the coordination mechanisms between the public administrations involved and their relationship with other organizations with proven experience in victim assistance. In recent years, the Government Delegation in Extremadura has been convening regular meetings related to human trafficking, being the last in 2022 due to the crisis in Ukraine and the massive arrival of women and minors in our country. In these meetings, issues such as the different police operations carried out in our region were also analyzed.
According to data from the Intelligence and Organized Crime Center of the Ministry of the Interior, in Extremadura there have been 24 victims of sexual trafficking and sexual exploitation, 5 by labor trafficking and 3 by forced marriages, with a total of 40 detainees in the region in the period between 2018-2022. The victims of sexual trafficking are mostly of Colombian nationality. In 2022, in Spain, 402 people involved in cases of trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation and sexual exploitation were arrested.
