The government delegate, Francisco Mendoza, presided over the event and stressed during his speech that the pandemic and confinement “have revealed that our lives and our well-being depend on the solidarity and committed management of our collective resources, of the common, of the public, which is everyone’s.” Something that, as he explained, is increasingly evident given the succession of emergencies such as fires, floods or health emergencies that have occurred in the last year and a half.
“There are great people who appear and respond in the most difficult moments, those who are there when it rains the most, and never better said in the case of some of the decorated. But there are also great people who are discreetly able to show their example day after day, working and dedicating their efforts to the general interest and, in this case, to the protection of other citizens, their property and their lives,” said Mendoza.
For the delegate, the value of the common “has exploded before us as what it is: the best resource to transform our society for peace, freedom and well-being for all people. And if there is an environment in which the public, the common, solidarity and generosity come together, it is undoubtedly civil protection.”
Mendoza addressed the winners as heroes, “heroes who promote, maintain and guarantee the public resources that we have to resort to when emergencies arrive.”
