· The UME works on the cleaning and dredging of the access to the Port of Catarroja and removes the sludge from the lateral margins
· Extracted sludge can be transformed into building material, thanks to a CSIC study
· The waters of the Albufera, after the analysis, “have no impact due to contamination”, said the delegate
· The total investment of the Spanish Government in Catarroja after the dana exceeds €210M. Of these, 138M€ are for the 100% repair of the services and infrastructures of municipal ownership
The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has visited together with the mayor of Catarroja, Lorena Silvent, the cleaning and dredging actions of the port of the locality that is being carried out by the Military Emergency Unit (UME).
These actions consist of the removal of mud, branches and other remains accumulated on the lateral margins of the access to the Port of Catarroja after the damage on October 29. Thus, Barnabas pointed out, “only the sludge will remain in the central part that specialized companies will remove with specific machinery.” All these actions, said Bernabé, “demonstrate the commitment of the Government and the UME in the active reconstruction” of Catarroja, Albufera and the province of Valencia after the dana.
Bernabé has also highlighted the work carried out by the Centre for Scientific Research (CSIC) to remove the extracted sludge and its use in the repair. It is, as he said, “a large amount of sludge that can be transformed into building material (tiles, pavers and curbs) thanks to the research of the CSIC for the reconstruction of the province of Valencia”. This methodology will be transferred through the Commissioner for Reconstruction to private companies. Thus, “it is possible to recover the sludge that the Generalitat will have to manage”. The delegate also referred to the analysis of the water of the Albufera carried out by the CSIC, from which it follows that “there is no affectation due to contamination”. However, “analysis will be carried out in fields of cultivation of final product to assure 100% that there is no affectation”
Bernabé has reported that the total investment of the Government of Spain in the municipality of Catarroja exceeds 210 million euros. Of these, 138 million euros are destined for the works of repair or reconstruction of facilities or services of municipal ownership that are comprehensively financed by the Government of Spain. In this case, the aid will go towards the repair of the sewerage and water purification, the municipal auditorium, the municipal sports center and the Ramón Pastor residence. Likewise, there will be performances in the parking lot of the Plaza Mayor, the World Soccer Field 82, the municipal warehouse Rei En Jaume, the Local Police Checkpoint, the House of Culture, the indoor pool, the expansion of the City Hall and the municipal cemetery, among other actions that affect parks and gardens and other local infrastructures.
To this is added the work of the Ministry of Agriculture to recover the agricultural plots, rural and agricultural roads and infrastructures of the irrigation cooperatives that has an investment of 8 and a half million euros.
In addition, the Government has also developed “more transversal reconstruction policies”, such as the employment plan so that unemployed people can work in the repair work of the municipality and which has an endowment of more than one million euros. It also allocates more than one million euros to social policies to help the most vulnerable groups.
For its part, the Ministry of Transport has also assumed the repair of two infrastructures of the municipality of Catarroja as they are, the bridge over the V-31 next to the Chiva ravine and the lower passage of the V-31-way to the Pont.
