The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has presided together with the general secretary of UGT-PV, Ismael Sáez, the act of handing over the Guardons d´Honor of the union to the Military Emergency Unit and the Castilian chemist Avelino Corma.
In this event, the delegate highlighted the work “of one of the most international Spanish researchers” and “the professionalism and work” of the EMU which is “a reference in the management of emergencies”. In this regard, he has thanked the men and women who made up the Military Emergency Unit for their work during the damage on October 29.
In the first eight hours of the dana, the UME carried out “the largest deployment in its history, with 2,200 troops and 600 means, positioning 1,000 participants in the affected area to face the devastating consequences of the flood”. This operation, said the delegate, “has become a unique reference for emergencies in Spain and the Valencian Community, with a total of 8,500 troops and 2,000 resources from all the Armed Forces that have been coordinated by the UME.”
The Military Emergency Unit, which is 20 years old, is “one of the most loved and best units in the world specialized in emergencies”, concluded the delegate.
