The DGT launches the special Traffic operation on the occasion of the San José Bridge that will take place in the Valencian Community from 15:00 hours on Friday, March 15, until 24:00 hours on Tuesday, March 19. To this end, special traffic regulation and management measures will be established.
In this Special Operation, a total of 5,640,000 long-distance trips are expected nationwide, of which more than 11% - 627,723 - correspond to the area of influence of the Valencian Community that is the recipient of much of the tourist traffic that comes from Madrid and provinces near the center of the peninsula.
The festivity of San José on Tuesday 19 March in the Valencian Community, and the celebration of the Fallas will give rise to a time of rest and leisure in the period between Friday 15 and Tuesday 19 March 2024. These holidays will lead to an important movement of vehicles through the Spanish road network, whose circulation will be increased with long and short trips in those communities in which San José day is festive, mainly in the Central-Levante area for the traditional festivity in the Valencian Community. The main destinations of these trips will be: mountain tourist areas, for the practice of winter sports; populations with festive celebrations, especially the Valencian Community; coastal tourist areas and second residences.
The government delegate to the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has called on drivers to “take extreme precautions and respect the traffic regulations”. Bernabé stressed “the importance of respecting safety limitations, the non-use of mobile phones while driving and the mandatory use of belts and child restraint systems”. The delegate recalled that the controls for compliance with the ban on the use of drugs and alcohol at the wheel will be strengthened.
