The delegate of the Government, Pilar Bernabé, visited this morning one of the offices of the Public Service of State Employment (SEPE) of the city of Alicante that has become one of the first of the Valencian Community to host a Violeta Point of attention to the victims of male violence.
This initiative, which is already being developed in other Spanish autonomous communities, will be implemented in the 57 units, 54 offices and after provincial directorates, of the SEPE in the Valencian Community. By province in Alicante there are 19 offices and a provincial address; in Castellón, 7 offices plus the provincial address and in Valencia, 28 offices and the provincial address.
The delegate pointed out that “the SEPE is firmly united in the fight against gender violence, a structural problem that requires a firm commitment from all administrations and society as a whole”. Bernabé has highlighted that initiatives such as this one highlight “the firm commitment of this Government in the fight against gender violence, a violence that cannot be denied, that kills women for the mere fact of being a woman, a structural violence.” With the violet points, promoted by the Ministry of Equality, it is established in the offices of the SEPE, “a safe place for victims of male violence: a physical space where they will be cared for and supported.”
Bernabé has pointed out that in the Violeta Points will be made known the services of attention and help to the victims in relation to male violence, in any of its manifestations. To this end, specific training has been provided to civil servants in the area of gender-based violence to deal with and detect cases. The delegate thanked “the commitment of the SEPE staff and their willingness to care for potential victims.” In this regard, the delegate said that, among the cases detected, “economic violence exercised by couples and former couples to leave women isolated from their resources and prevent them from being independent” stands out.
This initiative is part of the catalogue of urgent measures of the Improvement and Modernization Plan promoted by different ministries of the Government of Spain, and, it represents a change of focus in public policies of care for victims, taking decisive steps to make visible and involve the whole of society.
