· The project envisages the creation of a new landscaped pedestrian space in Manises that will connect the two areas of the municipality on both sides of the current N-220
· The capacity of the N-220 will be increased with two lanes per direction, which will improve the fluidity of the track
· The intervention will also facilitate access to the Fuente del Jarro de Paterna polygon by building collecting lanes at the V-30 link
· The coordination between the Demarcation of Roads, the City of Manises and the business sector allows the work to have the least possible impact for the citizens
Access to Valencia Airport will improve fluidity and road safety with an investment of 85.4 million euros by the Government of Spain. The government delegate to the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, held a meeting today with the mayor of Manises, Javier Mansilla, to discuss the details of the project, which has already begun to be implemented. “It is a great work that will mean the improvement of communications between industrial estates such as Fuente del Jarro and that will break the architectural barrier that divided the city of Manises in two,” he explained.
Bernabé has highlighted “the great coordination” between the Road Demarcation and the other agents involved in the work: both State Security Forces and Bodies, as well as municipalities and businesses of industrial estates. “We have worked to make the intervention have the least possible impact for the neighbors and neighbors of Manises and for the people who use the N-220,” he said. He has also assured that a great effort is being made to “communicate” so that road users have alternative routes of travel conveniently signposted.
20.000 m2 of landscaped spaces
“We are going to double the lanes and the capacity to absorb road traffic,” said Barnabas. Thus, the intervention of the Ministry of Transport and Urban Agenda (Mitma) will mean a substantial improvement in access to the airport. Specifically, the project contemplates increasing the capacity of the current N-220 road by duplicating it on two roads with two lanes per direction, which will avoid “traffic jams at peak times on this stretch of road”. In addition, it will result in a link between the V-30 motorway in the by-pass direction and Manises Airport and will favor the cyclopedestrian connection with the airport “linking it with the urban center of Manises with a triple safe itinerary for pedestrians and cyclists”.
However, “the big news”, according to the delegate of the Government, is the creation of a landscaped space in Manises of 20,000 m2, with sports areas and children’s playground, which aims to “give full road and pedestrian connection between the two areas of the municipality on both sides of the current N-220”. “Where there is now a road, we will soon have a beautiful boulevard with green areas,” he said.
In addition, the coverage of the road of the current N-220 and the grounding of road traffic will lead to a significant reduction in noise for the residents of the area. Finally, according to Bernabé, “a pedestrian path to the natural park of the Turia River will be enabled from this area, creating a new circular walking route that connects rural roads with the streets of the municipality”.
Access to Fuente del Jarro
Access to the Fuente del Jarro de Paterna industrial estate will also be improved by the construction of two collecting lanes on the V-30 link and the elimination of stops on several branches. In addition, a new road access is built, through the current link of Manises–Paterna, which replaces the one that already existed, through the service path of the V-30.
Alternative itineraries
It should be remembered that, in order to preserve the safety of both the workers involved in the work and the people using the road, from today, July 25, the N-220 will remain closed.
To ensure the fluidity of traffic during this affectation, the following duly signposted alternative itineraries will be enabled:
