The Interministerial Commission on Immigration of the Government of Spain, chaired by Ángel Víctor Torres, Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, has approved the creation of a Working Group for the follow-up and coordination of the implementation of Royal Decree Law 2/2025, of March 18, on urgent measures to guarantee the best interests of children and adolescents in situations of extraordinary migratory contingencies.
It will be this body that coordinates the work of the Interministerial Commission to request the autonomous communities to submit data on the autonomous resources for reception, capacity and occupation of places by unaccompanied migrant children and adolescents, or to clarify the data that have already been submitted.
The Interministerial Commission has also taken note of the meeting held last Thursday with the President of the Canary Islands to address, in collaboration and inter-administrative coordination, the reception of children and adolescents seeking international protection and thus comply with the precautionary measures issued by the Supreme Court.
Composition of the Working Group
The Working Group will be chaired by the Minister of Youth and Children, Sira Rego, and will be composed of the heads of the subsecretariats of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation; Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts; Interior; Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory; Inclusion, Social Security and Migration; and Youth and Children. In addition, the members of the State Attorney ' s Office, the Office of the Regional and Local Legal System and the Office of the Director-General for the Rights of Children and Adolescents are members. The secretariat shall be headed by the official of the Ministry of Children and Youth appointed by the Chair of the Inter-Ministerial Commission.
