• The government delegate participated in the 21st edition of Private Security Day with a speech where he made clear that the sector “far from replacing public functions, complements and strengthens them”
• During the day, more than a hundred professionals have been mentioned who have had some extraordinary action in recent months, either in the field of coordination, preventing crimes or saving lives
Santa Coloma de Gramenet, June 3, 2025.- The government delegate in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto, participated this Tuesday in the 21st edition of the Private Security Day, held this year at the Sagarra Theater of Santa Coloma de Gramenet. The day has served to recognize the exceptional work of more than a hundred private security workers who, through their actions, have prevented some type of crime, have been injured in the act of service or have even saved lives.
During his speech, Carlos Prieto defined private security as a sector that “works in silence but the impact of which is noticed every day”. Organized by the Civil Guard, the National Police and the government delegation, the event served to recognize the collaboration between the sector and the security forces and bodies that, in the words of the government delegate, “far from replacing public functions, complement and strengthen them”.
In this sense, Prieto has pointed to security as “a pillar of our Welfare State” and, despite the fact that, consequently, it is “a public responsibility”, the government delegate considers that “in a complex and dynamic society such as ours, the challenges are diverse and require a coordinated response”. “In this joint work between the public and the private, I want to highlight and thank the constant coordination between the different police forces,” added Carlos Prieto, referring to the National Police, the Civil Guard, the Mossos d'Esquadra and the local police. “This is the way, because it gives results,” said the delegate, who assured that “the 21 editions of Private Security Day confirm that it is a fully consolidated day.”
More than a hundred mentions
Before the parliament of the government delegate, and preceded by the opening of the mayor of Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Mireia González, more than a hundred mentions were given to workers and entities, most of them for actions that prevented the commission of a crime, protected workers and citizens or even saved lives.
González stressed the importance of effective collaboration between bodies, stressing that “police coordination is key, and the work done by private security contributes significantly to improving coexistence and the protection of citizens.” The mayor concluded her speech with sincere thanks to the collective, highlighting “the great work you do and your firm commitment to the security of Santa Coloma and all of Catalonia”.
Juancho, a trained dog who, last December, went along with his guide – a security guard – to warn about a possible occupation, was one of the people mentioned who attracted the most attention among the attendees. Upon arrival, two individuals assaulted the watchman, leaving him unconscious. Juancho, however, intervened to prevent the aggression from continuing. He even cornered one of the attackers until the arrival of the Mossos d'Esquadra.
Institutional presence
In addition to the government delegate in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto, and the mayor of Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Mireia González, the general in chief of the 7th zone of the Civil Guard, Pedro Antonio Pizarro, the superior chief of the National Police of Catalonia, Manuel Rodríguez, and the mayor of the Urban Guard, Angel Sagués, were present at the event.
