- Government delegate says summer campaign “will not be harmed” by Nelson
- Delegate and subdelegates work with affected municipalities to finalize damage reports
Barcelona, April 2, 2024.- The Government delegate in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto, held a meeting on Tuesday with the subdelegates of the government in Barcelona, Tarragona and Girona and the heads of coastal demarcation of these provinces to assess the situation caused by the storm that has affected the Catalan coast and, after that, he has contacted the General Directorate of the Coast and the Sea of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge to report the situation and that the Ministry evaluate an emergency declaration based on a resolution of the Secretary of State of the Ministry affected to litorize the works.
At the meeting, Prieto has valued the coordination of the delegation and the subdelegations to contact all the municipalities affected to know the effects of the storm. In fact, they have noted that many of them are still evaluating the damages, so the reports made by the delegation are preliminary and that they will work on concretizing the needs of each municipality.
One of the idiosyncrasies of this storm is the southern component, which means that much of the sand that has been displaced has not left the beach system and, if there is no other storm of southern component, much of the sand should return to the beach in the coming weeks, hence the affectations are still preliminary.
Despite this, the delegate has contacted the General Directorate of the Coast and the Sea aware of the concern of the municipalities, first because some of these affectations are at risk and second because of the proximity of the summer campaign.
The Delegate will send the preliminary and final reports on Tuesday, as they become concrete, and has welcomed the willingness of the General Directorate of the Coast and the Sea to speed up the restoration works on the beach of everything affected by the storm, so he has concluded that “the summer season will not be damaged”.
