- Carlos Prieto closes the 19th edition of Private Security Day in Barcelona
Barcelona, June 15, 2023.- The government delegate in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto, has inaugurated the training sessions of the Municipal Police of Sabadell that have been held in the Fira Sabadell premises on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the foundation of the body. The inaugural ceremony was attended by the Deputy Inspector of the Municipal Police of Sabadell, Joan Jordán, the Interior Minister of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Joan Ignasi Elena, and the acting Mayor of Sabadell, Marta Farrés.
In his speech, Prieto has praised the 175 years of history of the local police of Sabadell that thanks to his work of “proximity” helps in the “perception of security in our streets”. “Stepping on the street is typical of the local police,” explained the delegate. Prieto has stressed the importance of cooperation between all the security forces and bodies “each respecting their competences” and, although he has recognized that “not everything will be easy”, this society “will continue to move forward” because “we are more likely to succeed than if we do it separately”.
Later, Carlos Prieto, together with the Deputy Delegate of the Government in Barcelona, Pepín Beltrán, and the Secretary General of the Delegation of the Government in Catalonia, Simón Pérez, closed the 19th edition of the Private Security Day, at the National Center of Conditions of Treball in Barcelona. The event was also attended by the general of the Civil Guard, José Luis Tovar, the superior chief of police, Luis Pascual, and the manager of the Associació Catalana d’Empreses de Seguretat (ACAES), Anna Ainsa.
The government delegate in Catalonia has defended that one of its main objectives and responsibilities as a public office is to “promote all those essential conditions so that all citizens can freely exercise their constitutional rights to live in peace and freedom” and has said that “without security, without order, without coexistence, a society cannot be built”. Prieto has argued that “security is one of the fundamental principles of our entire legal system, and it is what we need for this society to function.”
The delegate also highlighted the “complementary” role of private security, which together with the rest of the security forces and bodies of the State plays an “extremely important role” because “security is not appreciated until we stop having it”. For Prieto, a hero or heroine, it is “that person who puts his personal security first to protect the lives of others”, an “arduous and complicated” job that is carried out in the sector with “professionalism, rigor and dedication”.
