The government delegate participates in the event together with the Association of Feminist Journalists of Castilla y León
May 15, 2025.- The government delegate in Castilla y León, Nicanor Sen, and the president of the Association of Feminist Journalists of Castilla y León, Ana Gaitero inaugurated today in Valladolid the sixth edition of the Conference on Gender Violence and the Media: “Feminists sneak into the networks”; organized by the Government Delegation in Castilla y León together with the Association of Feminist Journalists of Castilla y León. The days have added a total of almost 300 people attending all the tables and lectures scheduled.
The day began with the examples of Ana Gaitero as a sign of the inequality of men and women in her appearances in the media “only 13% of the subjects and sources of news worldwide and 21% in digital news and tweets. During the pandemic, despite the fact that the health sector has an average of 46% of women, only 27% were reported on the coronavirus.”
In this way, Gaitero has defended that these days are intended to “rescue a handful of protagonists of the irruption of women, professionals of journalism and communication and other fields” and has reviewed the objectives of the tables that will make up this morning’s program.
Finally, the Association of Feminist Journalists of Castilla y León has thanked “the support of the Government Delegation in Castilla y León and its representative, Nicanor Sen, for the support to celebrate this day that allows us to make visible the invisible hand of many women and men with commitment to equality, social justice and non-violence”.
For his part, Nicanor Sen has stressed the importance of the media both to highlight the discrimination and abuses against the freedom and equality of women and to highlight the achievements and advances in this field, in the labor, social, cultural and political spheres. “The media must show what happens with all its nuances, even if it is hard, but we must make visible the entire struggle of women for equality,” she said.
Commitment of the Government of Spain to gender equality
The delegate expressed the commitment of the government of Spain to gender equality and the need for “actions and activities that promote it to occupy a priority space in our political and economic agenda.”
Sen has taken advantage of this forum to remember that a few days ago the Council of Ministers approved a budget of 4.5 million euros for the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women).
UN Women is the UN body that develops programs, policies and norms to defend women’s human rights and ensure that all women and girls reach their full potential.
Condemnation of male violence
The government delegate in Castilla y León has also expressed his “absolute condemnation and rejection of the machista murders” and highlighted the commitment of the State Security Forces and Corps in protecting and helping women in these situations.
