May 8, 2025.- The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, highlighted on Thursday in Soria the commitment of the department to the areas affected by the demographic challenge, during the visit he made to the Civil Guard Command, in which 8 million euros have been invested to undertake energy efficiency improvements.
“In July 2021 I inaugurated the penitentiary center of Soria; in May 2022 I visited the works of the new headquarters of the Civil Guard in San Esteban de Gormaz, which is a reality since February last year; and in April 2024 I inaugurated the provincial police station,” the minister recalled, underlining “the commitment of the Ministry of the Interior with the security and progress of the emptied Spain.”
The improvement works at the Soria Command have been aimed at improving energy efficiency and will mean a minimum saving of 30 percent in consumption. The renovation of facilities has included sustainable and bioclimatic measures of exploitation —installation of biomass boiler and photovoltaic panels—, redistribution of uses in the work block and care for the public, and measures of accessibility and modernization of plumbing and sanitation facilities.
The renewal is part of the energy rehabilitation program financed by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan with an investment of 7,466,000 million euros, to which has been added 566,000 euros contributed by the Secretary of State for Security. In addition, in Soria there are three more projects for refurbishment of barracks, in Almazán, Berlanga de Duero and Gómara, with an investment of 2.74 million euros.
The minister was accompanied during the visit by the deputy delegate of the Government in Soria, Miguel Latorre; the general director of the Civil Guard, Mercedes González; the mayor of the city, Carlos Martínez; and the president of the Society of Infrastructures and Penitentiary Equipment and State Security, Sofía Hernanz.
