Renfe launches the new S106 trains that will circulate through León, Palencia, Segovia, Valladolid and Zamora

• The new trains make it possible to increase frequencies and destinations and reduce travel times between Madrid and Galicia and Madrid and Asturias. • The first train has made the journey almost with full occupancy of seats • The S106 offer more than 500 seats per train, bringing with them a reduction in travel times, greater comfort and better performance

Gijón, May 21, 2024 (Renfe).

Renfe has launched today the AVE Asturias-Madrid service and has done so on board the new S106 trains, which will connect from today Gijón with Madrid in just over 3 and a half hours, and Oviedo with Chamartín in just over 3 hours. The first train from the station of Gijón, scheduled at 6.00h, departed normally on its first expedition with travelers.

From today, two AVE frequencies per direction will communicate Asturias with Madrid and one of them will do so as a passing service to Castelló. The commercial services offer is completed with two other Alvia services in each direction, one with Madrid as a destination, and the second as a passing train to Alacant.

In this first AVE S106 convoy from Renfe with departure from Gijón early in the morning, about 360 travelers have boarded the train at the Asturian stations, with almost full occupancy throughout the trip, passing through Castilla y León, to Madrid.

Thanks to the incorporation of the new rolling stock S106, Renfe is now offering more than 21,500 weekly seats throughout the high-speed corridor Asturias-Madrid, which represents an increase of 33.5%. AVE S106 trains offer more than 500 seats per train.

In addition to the increase in seats, the AVE S106 brings with it a reduction in travel times: 10 minutes less on the Gijón-Madrid route, and 12 from Oviedo.

Europe’s most modern fleet with new onboard services With the arrival of the S106, Renfe is increasing and rejuvenating its High Speed fleet. The new vehicles have 12 cars per train and more than 500 seats. They are accessible trains, with specific spaces for people with reduced mobility.

The AVE S106 enjoys greater performance, with touch screens in all seats and comfort spaces (with 2+2 seating) and standard (3+2), in addition to having a cafeteria service, new services on board, such as the restoration in the plaza or the possibility of traveling in the Car in Silence.
