Everything ready to cover the 839,000 trips planned in Castilla y León for the bridge of 1 May
Special device
April 29, 2024. Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 30, at 3:00 p.m., begins the special device that the General Directorate of Traffic launches on the occasion of the bridge on May 1, and that will last nationwide until midnight on Sunday, May 5. The operation will be especially intense throughout the Central Zone as it will be festive in the Community of Madrid on Wednesday 1 and Thursday 2 and non-school on Friday 3.
For these days in which a total of 839,000 road trips are planned in Castilla y León, Traffic has the total availability of means, both human (agents of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard, official personnel of the Traffic Management Centers, helicopter patrols and personnel in charge of the maintenance of equipment and the installation of measures on the road), and technical (fixed radars and mobile speed control, as well as helicopters, drones, cameras and camouflaged vans to control the use of mobile and the safety belt) available to the DGT.

With these means, a series of traffic regulation, management and monitoring measures will be implemented with the aim of covering the important movement of vehicles that will take place these days and that includes both long and short journeys whose main destinations will be coastal and coastal tourist areas (mainly Andalusia and Levante), as well as mountain tourist areas and second residences.
To encourage traffic in the most sensitive areas in each of these days, the DGT has planned, among other measures, the installation of reversible and additional lanes with cones in the hours of greatest traffic flow, which increase the capacity of the road, distribute traffic and relieve congestion, or the establishment of alternative itineraries with the objective of avoiding circulation through the center of the Peninsula, which will be the area with the greatest traffic in this period and which can be used both by those drivers who circulate in the sense of greater traffic demand, and by those who go in the opposite direction and can be “penalized” by some of the regulatory measures established.
In addition, work on the roads will be stopped, both to avoid the congestion that a work can bring with it by reducing the number of available lanes, and to improve the road safety of drivers and operators; the holding of sports tests and other events that involve the occupation of the road will be limited and the movement of trucks in general and those transporting certain goods in certain sections, dates and times will be restricted.
All these measures, in addition to the special device by autonomous communities can be consulted in the following link of the DGT website.

CIRCULATION FORECASTS
Traffic forecasts show that in the early afternoon of Tuesday 30 there will be significant movements out of the large urban centers that will produce high intensities of circulation, especially between 16 and 23 hours.
The Wednesday 1 of May will continue the intense traffic in the direction of departure in the accesses to the Community of Madrid with high intensities of circulation and retentions, especially between 9 and 14 hours. These long-distance movements will be joined by short-distance local movements as it is a national holiday, on roads leading to the coast and mountains, as well as leisure destinations close to urban centers, with the return of this festive period from May 1 to late afternoon in all the Autonomous Communities except the Community of Madrid.
The Thursday 2 of May will occur the usual movements of entry and exit to the large urban centers as it is a working day in all the Autonomous Communities, except in the Community of Madrid that celebrates this day its autonomic festival. For this reason, on the roads of Madrid and its area of influence, short trips will originate to recreation and recreation areas close to the urban centers of this Community, resulting in its return in the late afternoon (especially between 19 and 21 hours).
The Friday 3 of May will occur the usual movements of entry and exit to the large urban centers as it is a working day and, in the afternoon, especially between 19 and 21 hours, movements in the direction of exit to the coastal areas and second residence will be observed by the beginning of the weekend.
On Saturday 4 traffic problems can occur in the morning already in destination places, due to short-distance local movements, especially in the accesses to coastal towns and coastal roads.
In the early afternoon of the Sunday 5, the return of this special traffic operation will begin, both those who enjoyed the whole festive period and those who took advantage of the weekend, presenting traffic problems (especially between 13 and 23 hours) in the main roads of communication that channel the entire return movement, highlighting for its intensity the network of general interest, highways and highways to, in the afternoon night, move these problems to the accesses of the large urban centers. For this reason, management and regulation measures will be installed during the afternoon and evening in the communities of Andalusia, Valencia, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Madrid and Murcia that favor the entry of vehicles to the cities.
A CALL TO PRUDENCE
For all of us to enjoy these days of well-deserved rest, it is necessary to remember, once again, that on the road we must all be responsible for complying with the rules.
Just three days ago, the Minister of the Interior Fernando Grande-Marlaska presented at the headquarters of the DGT a collision plan with which it is intended to stop the increase in road accident that has been recorded in the first quarter of this year, in which 261 people have died in interurban roads, 36 more people than in the same period of the previous year, which is an increase of 16% compared to the same period of the previous year.
At the wheel or on a motorbike, zero distractions, zero alcohol and drugs, respect the speeds established on each type of road and use of the mandatory protection systems in each case so that we do not have to regret lives lost during these holidays.
Before starting the trip, the DGT recommends fine-tuning the vehicle, informing yourself of the weather forecasts at the State Meteorological Agency and, of course, planning the trip along the safest route to avoid unforeseen events.
From the twitter accounts @informacionDGT and @DGTes or the news bulletins on radio and television, as well as on the phone 011, the situation of the traffic is reported in real time and any incidents that may exist.
