Renfe sells 61,000 tickets weekly in High Speed services to Asturias and Galicia
The new offer will be implemented as of May 21, 2024
Leon, April 17, 2024 (Renfe).
Renfe will sell 61,000 tickets weekly in the High Speed services to Asturias and Galicia, passing through Castilla y León, with the new commercial offer that the company will implement from May 21, when the new S106 trains enter into service in the Asturias-Madrid and Galicia–Madrid corridor, with the premiere of the AVE in Asturias and the arrival of this Renfe service to the Galician stations of Vigo, A Coruña, Santiago, Pontevedra and Vilagarcía de Arousa. Tickets for these services go on sale tomorrow, April 18, with a launch campaign with ‘Superprices’ starting at 18 euros.
The new commercial offer for Asturias with the expected S106 will replace two current Alvia services with two AVE services in the relations Gijón-Madrid and Gijón-Castelló-Vinaroz, with stops at the usual intermediate stations.
The current Alvia services that have their origin in Asturias and the passage through León at 8:03 and 12:46, will go on to do so as AVE services at 7:36 and 13:07 respectively. On the contrary, the current Alvia services that leave Madrid for Asturias at 6:36 and 14:52, will move as AVE at 6:58 and 14:58 respectively.
The rest of the ratio of AVE and Long Distance trains of this high-speed line for the stations of León, Palencia, Valladolid and Segovia remains unchanged.
The arrival of the AVE service to Galicia beyond Ourense comes with the S106 trains and opens new destinations such as Vigo, A Coruña, Santiago, Pontevedra and Vilagarcía de Arousa, which will be connected with Zamora by high speed.
The new Galicia–Madrid commercial offer replaces two Alvia trains (one originating in A Coruña and the other in Vigo Urzáiz) with new AVE services between these cities and Madrid, and intermediate stops.
In this way, the current Alvia services with origin in Galicia and pass through the Zamora station at 12:30 and 22:13, will go to do so as AVE services at 12:29 and 22:16 respectively. On the contrary, the current Alvia with destination Galicia that leave Chamartín at 14:30 and 19:15, will circulate as AVE at 14:41 and 19:18 respectively.
Better travel times and increase in the offer of seats
The travel times with the S106 between Asturias and Madrid will be cut again with the premiere of the AVE service. The modern S106 will join Oviedo with Madrid in 3 hours and 6 minutes (12 minutes less than the present duration), and Gijón with Madrid in 3 hours and 36 minutes (discount of 10 minutes on the current time).
The same happens with the new AVE services on the Galician line, in this first phase of commercial services of the S106, which will have travel times from May 21 between Santiago and Madrid of 3 hours and 1 minute (reduces 18 minutes the current times), or between Vigo and Madrid, with a duration of 4 hours and 6 minutes (16 less than the best current time).
The arrival of the S106 trains also brings a significant increase in the offer of seats in the Asturias-Madrid corridor, where it will go from the current more than 16,000 to offer more 21,500 seats, which means an increase of 33.5%. The same happens in the Galicia–Madrid corridor, with an offer that goes from the current 32,600 places to more than 39,000, which means an increase of 20.3%.
First phase and ‘Superpricing’ campaign
Renfe will implement from May 21 a first phase of putting into service of the S106, adjusted to the reorganization of railway services by the expansion works that Adif is carrying out at the Madrid Chamartín-Clara Campoamor station. The commercial offer will gradually increase in future phases.
To celebrate with customers the implementation of the S106, Renfe launches tomorrow, April 18, a ‘Superprices’ campaign with economic tickets from 18 euros for the new AVE S106 services of the Asturias and Galicia corridors, as well as in its intermediate stations of Castilla y León.
The ticket promotion, with advance purchase of ten days, is valid for travel from May 21 to July 21, in the new S106 services.
Europe's most modern fleet
With the arrival of the S106 Renfe increases and rejuvenates its fleet of High Speed trains. The new vehicles have 12 cars per train and more than 500 seats. They are accessible trains, with specific spaces for people with reduced mobility (PRM).
The AVE S106 offers superior performance, with touchscreens in all seats and comfort spaces (with 2+2 seating) and standard (3+2) seats, as well as on-board cafeteria service.
Renfe has been training its drivers and intervention staff in León, Asturias and Galicia since the beginning of the year to be able to launch the new commercial offer.
