Nicanor Sen highlights the professionalism of Major General González Díez at the head of San Marcial
farewell meeting
April 10, 2024. The government delegate in Castilla y León, Nicanor Sen, held a meeting on Wednesday with the head of the San Marcial Division of the Spanish Army, Major General Juan Carlos González Díez, who will leave his post in the next few days to join the Royal House.
General González Díaz, who assumed the command of the Spanish Army in Castilla y León in December 2020, will move to Madrid to assume the functions of the Planning and Coordination Cabinet of Zarzuela, a position in which he replaces Infantry Brigadier General Emilio Tomé de la Vega.
Sen has highlighted the high degree of professionalism demonstrated by General González Díez over these three years at the head of the more than 7,000 military that make up the San Marcial Division, of which about 600 are officers, about 1,500 non-commissioned officers and more than 5,000 professional troops.
This stage coincided with the deepest transformation that has taken place in the Division since its creation, providing it with new operational capabilities that allow it to quickly generate, and make available to the Chief of Defence Staff, the operational structures required. A transformation in which, the delegate stressed, the Division General has been up to the task of demonstrating his high command and work capacity.
In this meeting Sen expressed his gratitude for the close collaboration with the Government Delegation and for the services provided throughout this period, while wishing him the greatest success in the performance of his new position.
DIVISÓN SAN MARCIAL
The units of the San Marcial Division participate very frequently in training activities with the Navy and the Air Force, as well as in bilateral exercises and activities with armies of allied countries to ensure a high degree of interoperability in the international arena.
This high availability of its Units, as well as its high specialization, make the San Marcial Division the most visible exponent of the new organization of the Land Army Force to adapt to the new strategic context.
The chief general of the San Marcial Division, Juan Carlos González Díez, has exercised command from the General Headquarters, based in the facilities of the Diego Porcelos quartering, where more than 200 civilians and soldiers serve.
Since January 1, 2021, the San Marcial Division brings together under a single command the Almogávares VI Parachutist Brigade (BRIPAC), the Roncesvalles Mountain Troops Command (MTM), the Special Operations Command (MOE), the Ground Army Aeromobile Forces (FAMET) and the Information Operations Regiment No. 1.
