December 5, 2023.- The Council of Ministers authorized this Tuesday, at the proposal of the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, to allocate 10,363,800 euros to Castilla y León for Energy Efficiency and Circular Economy Projects of Tourism Companies for the 2023 financial year, within the framework of Component 14 of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
The forecast for this year in Castilla y León is that 74 tourist establishments will renew and improve their energy performance and reduce their energy consumption.
The total investment amounts to 108 million euros, to distribute between communities and autonomous cities, with a forecast of 773 tourist establishments benefiting. This Agreement must be ratified at the Sectoral Conference on Tourism.
The Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, stressed that “with these investments the Government intends to increase the competitiveness of our tourism companies through the development of energy efficiency and circular economy projects that contribute to reducing energy costs and the carbon footprint. If we add this year’s aid with last year’s (170 million euros), we have a total of 278 million euros and 3,400 beneficiaries to be more sustainable in tourism”.
The objective criterion of territorial distribution considers the number of establishments and number of rooms offered by each Autonomous Community, which are included in the 2019 Hotel Occupancy Survey, the last available before the pandemic.
The beneficiaries of this Pay-As-You-Go are the CCAAs. They must allocate, through the calls for grants they make in their respective territories, the budget that has corresponded to the last recipients; that is, to the companies in the tourism sector defined in the Agreement of the Sectorial Conference: passenger transport, hotels, accommodations, campsites, restaurants, car rental, travel agencies, tour operators, organization of conventions and fairs, etc.
The eligible actions should be dedicated to improving energy efficiency, waste management measures and actions aimed at reuse, actions aimed at promoting proximity supplies and improvement in lighting, air conditioning and thermal storage facilities and equipment.
The deadline for the execution of the eligible actions will be until 30 June 2025.
