Social Security records 83,041 foreign workers in October in Castilla y León
This figure reaches 2.7 million foreign workers nationwide
November 21, 2023.- Social Security in Castilla y León has registered, in unseasonalized terms, more than 83,000 foreign affiliates. This figure represents an increase of 1.59% compared to the previous month (1,298 more foreign affiliates) and 11.95% compared to the same month of the previous year (assuming 8,862 more foreign affiliates).
In Spain, the Social Security was able to register 2,683,504 foreign affiliates in October, once the seasonality and the calendar effect were discounted. That’s 14,403 more members than in September. Since February 2020, before the impact of the pandemic, the system has recorded an increase of 494,083 workers from other countries.
This figure represents 12.9% of the total number of Social Security members in seasonally adjusted terms in October.
Average membership
In medium and non-seasonal terms, that is, in the original series, Social Security registered 2,683,937 foreign affiliates this month, which represents 3,053 less than in September. Of the total, 879,986 workers come from European Union countries (32.8%) and 1,803,951 from third countries (67.2%). The largest groups of employed are from Romania (337,762), Morocco (317,034), Italy (180,729), Colombia (171,696) and Venezuela (145,926). Of the total, 55.7% are men and 44.3% are women.
In the last twelve months, the average affiliation of foreign workers has grown by 9%, that is, it has added 221,431 affiliates.
In Castilla y León, of the 83,041 foreign affiliates of the month of October 2023, 34,286 (41.29%) are from countries of the European Union, among which stand out Romania (15,699), Bulgaria (9,594), Portugal (4,585) or Italy (1,593). Of the workers from countries outside the European Union (48,755), those from Morocco (10,237), Colombia (7,218326 Venezuela (4,813) or Peru (2,567) stand out.
Of the total number of foreign affiliates in Castilla y León, 54.13% (44.947) are men and 45.87% (38.094) are women.
66.002 Ukrainian affiliates
Among other nationalities, there are 66,002 affiliates from Ukraine. This is 18,743 more than in January 2022, when the war had not yet begun, which represents a growth of 40%.
The majority of workers from Ukraine, about 87%, are in the General System (they are salaried) and 13% are self-employed.
Regimes and sectors
In Castilla y León, the number of foreign workers entering the General Regime is 73,519, which represents 88.53% of the total. For its part, 9,522 foreign workers fall within the Autonomous System.
Overall, 83.8% of foreign affiliates were covered by the General System, with 2,248,483 workers. The sectors that have been most occupied are Education (19.3%) and Construction (2.6%), in addition to the Special Agricultural System, which increased by 2.7%. On the other hand, the number of participants decreased, mainly in Public Administration (-5.3%) and Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry Hunting and Fishing (-5.8%).
For its part, the Autonomous System counted 430,042 foreign affiliates. Of all self-employed workers, 14.8% come from China, 10.9% from Romania and 9% from Italy.
