In these 5 days, Traffic forecasts that there will be 1,026,000 movements of both long and short distance along all the roads of Castilla y León. During this long weekend, in addition to the trips of departure and return due to the change of fortnight, they will join those that are made to populations of the coast and beaches or areas of second residence because it is a few days of leisure and weekend rest within the typically holiday month that is August.
In addition, this weekend celebrations are held in a large number of towns in the national territory so that short-distance trips will also be increased to travel to them, both on the main road network and on the secondary one, especially in the nights and the early hours of these days of Special Operation.
For this reason, Traffic insists on drivers taking extreme road safety measures and, especially, not driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Therefore, the preventive measures of speed, alcohol and drug control by the agents of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard will be intensified, also coinciding the operation with the special campaign of surveillance and control of alcohol and drugs that, both the agents of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard, and the local police who join it, will carry out from next Monday 14, both on roads and in urban centers, with the objective of raising awareness about the risk that the sum of alcohol and/or drug consumption and driving entails.
For all of us to enjoy these days of leisure and rest it is important to insist that alcohol and drugs can never go together with putting themselves at the helm of any type of vehicle.
SPECIAL MEASURES
In order to cover this operation and make all planned movements safe, Traffic has established a series of traffic regulation, management and surveillance measures for which it has the maximum availability of its human resources: agents of the Traffic Grouping of the Civil Guard, official staff of the Traffic Management Center and personnel in charge of equipment maintenance and the installation of road measures, in addition to the personnel of the emergency services.
With regard to material resources, the DGT in Castilla y León has 86 fixed speed control radars, of which 24 are of course, 97 mobile radars that can be loaded into ATGC vehicles, 24 cameras and 1 camouflaged van to control the use of mobile phones and seat belts. The DGT also has helicopters and drones for surveillance from the air and with unmarked vehicles and motorcycles that will circulate on all types of roads in order to check the correct behavior of drivers during driving.
To encourage circulation in the most sensitive areas, reversible and additional rails with cones will be installed in the hours of greatest circulatory influx and alternative itineraries will be established. Likewise, the works on the roads will be paralyzed, the celebration of sports tests and other events that suppose the occupation of the road will be limited and the circulation of freight trucks in general and those who transport certain goods in certain sections, dates and times will be restricted.
The established device can be consulted in https://www.dgt.es/conoce-el-estado-del-trafico/recomendaciones-de-trafico/.
AVOID THE MOST TROUBLESOME HOURS
Traffic forecasts indicate that on Friday afternoon, mainly between 4 and 11 p.m., there will be significant movements of vehicles that will cause high intensities and problems of circulation in the exits of large cities, as well as in the main roads of access to the tourist areas of the coast, second residence and towns at parties.
Saturday morning (from 9 to 14 hours) will continue the intense traffic of departure from the urban centers, as well as in late morning destination areas, which will be added to the usual short-distance access to beaches and festivities in numerous towns throughout the national geography.
On Sunday the 13th, the morning accesses to the coast and the roads that link coastal towns with access to beaches, as well as the accesses of the large urban centers in local movements and short-distance routes to leisure, recreation and recreation areas close to them, making their return at the last hour of the afternoon. Already in the afternoon, especially between 19 and 22 hours, the return of those who have enjoyed this summer weekend will begin, being this one of lower intensity of circulation than other Sundays of the summer because it is festive on Tuesday 15 throughout Spain.
Monday will be the quietest day of this special operation, producing the usual movements of entry and exit to the large urban centers because it is a working day. In the morning, the roads leading to the coast and those linking coastal towns with access to beaches will also be conflictive and, in the afternoon, departure movements of the large urban centers will be observed because it is the following holiday and also because of the change of fortnight of holidays.
On Tuesday 15 in the morning there may be problems of circulation in the accesses to the coast and in the roads that link coastal populations of access to beaches and, already in the afternoon (from 18 to 23 hours) the return of those who end their days of rest may present problems in the main roads of communication that channel all the movement of return from the tourist areas of coast, rest and second residences to the accesses of the large urban centers.
ALWAYS, RESPONSIBLE DRIVING
- When travelling to partying towns, whether day or night, never lower your guard even if it’s a short trip, wear a seat belt, respect speed limits and road signs.
- When going to make the trip to or from towns at parties, if alcohol has been ingested, do not look for excuses to drive even if the maximum allowed has not been reached. It is better to let someone who has not drunk drive, contemplate the possibility of using public transport or even rest and spend the night at the destination, in hostels, hotels, etc., or in the car itself until you can make the trip in the best conditions for driving
- On long journeys, ensure that the vehicle is in optimal condition, checking at least the lighting, the state of the brakes and the tyres.
- Plan the trip by the safest route and avoiding the most conflicting hours to avoid unforeseen events. The twitter accounts @informacionDGT and @DGTes or the news bulletins on radio and television, as well as on the phone 011, are informed of the traffic situation in real time and of the incidents that may exist.
- Take breaks every two hours. Fatigue and sleep in driving are a cause of accident
