August 5, 2023.- The multinational agrifood group Cerealto Siro Foods has reached an agreement with the Enterprise Committee of the biscuit plant located in Venta de Baños (Palencia) to maintain the activity. The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, as a party committed to the protection of jobs, celebrates this outcome, beneficial for the 200 people who work directly in the factory and for the economic development of the Palentine town.
During the vote of the workers, held this Friday, August 4, the agreement between Cerealto and the workers of the VB1 center has been ratified. It includes the measures to ensure productive activity, among which is an investment plan by the company that will take shape in the coming months and will involve progressive improvements of the facilities and machinery of the factory.
The Ministry also wishes to thank the good disposition and joint effort of Cerealto, the Enterprise Committee of VB1 and the other institutions that have facilitated the understanding between the company and the workers, such as the Municipality of Venta de Baños and the Junta de Castilla y León. Coordination between administrations and co-governance have been key within the framework of a common objective, such as protecting jobs and boosting economic development in the area.
It should be remembered that on June 13, 2022, it was possible to close and sign a Competitiveness Plan after the broad support of the workers of the conditions offered by the company.
The Plan provided an industrial future for the company and guaranteed a job opportunity for families who depended on the plant. This agreement was a good example of commitment to the advancement and growth of rural Spain, in this case of Castilla y León, one of the priorities expressed by the Government of Spain during the last legislature.
From the very beginning, the government’s priority has always been to work together to secure jobs. The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism welcomes the maintenance of Cerealto Siro Foods’ Palentine facilities and thanks the company for its willingness to find a solution that safeguards productive capacities and employment at the plant.
