July 3, 2023.- The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) has completed the works to improve the intersection of the N-6 road with access to the LE-5215 road and to Villamartin de la Abadía (Carracedelo), in the province of León. The amount of the works amounts to 365,775 euros (VAT included).
The works carried out have consisted in the transformation of the departure roundabout existing at km 399,000 of the N-6 into a closed roundabout.
At this intersection, the N-6 road converges, with a road access vial LE-5215 (which gives access to the town of Cacabelos) and with access to the town of Villamartín de la Abadía, in the municipality of Carracedelo. The roundabout is located in the vicinity of the entry and exit branches of the A-6 motorway, as well as the branches of the intersection of the N-6 with the N-120.
The solution adopted consisted of closing the departure roundabout to turn it into a closed roundabout, thus avoiding the possibility of fronto-lateral collisions between vehicles driving at high speeds along the N-6 road and those trying to access it or cross it.
The works have consisted of the closure of the central ring of the roundabout and the paving with asphaltic mixture of the annular road; the conditioning of the drainage and the central islet and the corresponding signage, marking and defenses. In addition, a new road has been built, improving mobility and resolving the accessibility of farms near the N-6.
The action will mean a significant improvement in safety, thanks to the new traffic management and is included within the conservation and maintenance program of the State Road Network.
